Legends Golf Classic
An unseasonably beautiful and sunny October 7th was the backdrop for our Legends Golf Classic at The Golf Club of Dublin.
This annual outing honors the legacies of two great coaches and administrators: Ron Shay and Tom Scholl. Our honorary guest this year was former BWHS football coach and Athletic Hall of Fame member Mike Golden. Due to the generous donations from our sponsors and golfers, we were able to raise nearly $7,000 that will be used to provide support for scholarships. The Alumni Department is thankful to all who contributed to making this event a great success.
Homecoming Hall of Fame
At our Homecoming Assembly on October 12, we inducted Chuck Nance '58 into our Homecoming Hall of Fame! Chuck was a member of the first class at Bishop Watterson and president of his class all four years. He was also the first Student Council President at BWHS.  Under his leadership, the precedent of class representatives was set. When he was not pulling good-natured jokes in our beloved hallways, he could be found on the football or baseball field. After his career at Bishop Watterson, Mr. Nance joined the Marines. He and his wife, Jerry, recently celebrated 55 years of marriage, including raising and educating several children in the Catholic faith and tradition. Though he remains the only Bishop Watterson graduate in his family, to this day Mr. Nance is always loyal to his Alma Mater, and continues to meet with members of his graduating class over a meal every other month.
In October we completed our Back Field Renovation Project campaign thanks to our generous Bishop Watterson community! A donor’s offer to match gifts up to $250,000 through Oct. 10 propelled us across the finish line of this $3 million capital improvement project. Our band, baseball, cheerleading, field hockey, football, lacrosse, soccer and track programs are truly grateful and looking forward to having the back field in full use for the fall of 2019!
In addition, the renovation will also benefit our physical education classes and will allow Bishop Watterson to host Diocesan grade school football games, bringing potential families to our campus.
Many thanks to all who gave!

In Service to Others
The Alumni Department provides service at  St. Lawrence Haven on the second Wednesday of each month, preparing and packaging meals for the daily lunch line. We normally volunteer from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
St. Lawrence Haven is a St. Vincent de Paul-run sack lunch program, located behind Holy Cross Church at the corner of Rich and Main streets downtown.
Approximately 300-500 meals are served each day. The staff at St. Lawrence Haven is very appreciative of the assistance we provide and we are thankful for the alumni and friends who have taken time out of their busy schedules to help with this service endeavor!
If you are interested in helping, please email Terri Kernan at  tkernan@cdeducation.org.
We would love to have you join us!
Eagle Mentoring Network
Are you a graduate of Bishop Watterson or a parent of an alum or current student?
Are you established in your chosen field?
Do you ever think about using your professional experience to help young people getting started, or someone with a great interest in your profession?

The Bishop Watterson Alumni Department is launching the Eagle Mentoring Network to assist members of the BWHS family in establishing a career or a new career. To do this we need mentors in the Columbus community. If you are willing to mentor a BWHS grad through networking, etiquette coaching, interview coaching, and resume/cover letter review in addition to being a sounding board and offering suggestions and encouragement, please contact us!

Msgr. Spiers Service Awards 2018
The Monsignor Spiers Service Awards are named after Monsignor Edward Spiers, the founding principal when Bishop Watterson opened. Monsignor Spiers served as principal at Bishop Watterson from 1953-1971. A Homecoming week tradition that goes back to 1996, these awards are presented by Student Council to honor students who have performed outstanding service in both the school and the community. The Monsignor Spiers Awards honor individuals who have upheld his commitment to the Christian values of service and education.
