  Help Us Finish the Field!
Matching Campaign is Underway!

We are well on our way to funding the Back Yard Renovation Project with $2.5 million in pledges secured toward our $3 million goal! We are so close, in fact, that a generous donor has offered to match up to $250,000 in gifts and pledges through October 10. Donations and pledges totaling $250k plus the matching offer would push us across the finish to the $3 million goal.

Now is the time to get involved!

Want more information? Join us for an information session on Wednesday, September 26 from 7:00-8:15 p.m. in Dominican Hall. Our principal, Deacon Chris Campbell, and Back Field Renovation Chairman Bob Hoying will provide information about this important project to improve our facilities.
For seating and hospitality purposes, please click here to RSVP if you can attend, or email Ryan Steinbauer at rysteinb@cdeducation.org .

In Service to Others
The Alumni Department provides service at  St. Lawrence Haven on the second Wednesday of each month, preparing and packaging meals for the daily lunch line. We normally volunteer from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
St. Lawrence Haven is a St. Vincent de Paul-run sack lunch program, located behind Holy Cross Church at the corner of Rich and Main streets downtown.
Approximately 300-500 meals are served each day. The staff at St. Lawrence Haven is very appreciative of the assistance we provide and we are thankful for the alumni and friends who have taken time out of their busy schedules to help with this service endeavor!
If you are interested in helping, please email Terri Kernan at  tkernan@cdeducation.org.
We would love to have you join us!
Eagle Mentoring Network
Are you a graduate of Bishop Watterson or a parent of an alum or current student?
Are you established in your chosen field?
Do you ever think about using your professional experience to help young people getting started, or someone with a great interest in your profession?

The Bishop Watterson Alumni Department is launching the Eagle Mentoring Network to assist members of the BWHS family in establishing a career or a new career. To do this we need mentors in the Columbus community. If you are willing to mentor a BWHS grad through networking, etiquette coaching, interview coaching, and resume/cover letter review in addition to being a sounding board and offering suggestions and encouragement, please contact us!

Alumni in the News
Dr. Elaine Binkley will be inducted into Denison University's 2018 Hall of Fame. During her career at Denison, Elaine was a four-year letter winner and two-time All-American in cross country and track and field. She was a co-valedictorian of the Denison Class of 2007, a recipient of Denison President's Medal, a NCAA Postgraduate Scholar, and a Rhodes Scholar finalist. Dr. Binkley was inducted into the Bishop Watterson Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015. Congratulations!
Comedy for a Cause

A crowd of alumni, parents, and BWHS staff members gathered at Halftime Tavern to cheer on Billy Griffin '06 and other comedians and support the Monsignor Kenneth Grimes Scholarship Fund. More than $2000 was raised at this event. Great job Billy! We look forward to seeing you next time.
Seeking Military Service Information

We are in the process of compiling a database of military service of our alums. Please contact Mike Roark at mroark@cdeducation.org with information including your name, graduation year, branch of service, etc. We are very grateful and proud of all of our alumni who have given service to our country.

School News
Watterson 101

The Class of 2018, with 253 members, earned $33 million in college merit scholarships. This is merit only and does not include financial aid. We are proud of their hard work and wish them all the best!
Guatemala Mission Trip
Bishop Watterson sent 27 students and six chaperones on service mission trips to Guatemala this summer. They worked with International Samaritan, a Jesuit founded organization whose mission is to serve those in extreme poverty living and working in garbage dump communities. International Samaritan provides residents in these
garbage dump communities with basic needs, like sanitation, health care, education, and housing. The two Bishop Watterson groups worked at schools in Estelí and
Guatemala City. During the day, the high school students worked hand-in-hand with the school and local community members on construction projects such as building new classrooms, renovating a patio area, and painting.
Italian Exchange 2018
Bishop Watterson's exchange with Instituto Russell Newton in Florence, Italy, is underway! BWHS students are hosting 21 Italian students for 12 days this month. The Italians spend days shadowing our students in class and on field trips to locations such as Ohio State, the Ohio Statehouse, Franklin Park Conservatory, Amish country and the Columbus Zoo, among others.
Italian Festival

Mark your calendars for Columbus Day Weekend, October 5-7! Bishop Watterson students will again be participating in the Columbus Italian Festival.
