In Service to Others
The Alumni Department provides service at St. Lawrence Haven on the second Wednesday of each month, preparing and packaging meals for
the daily lunch line. We normally volunteer from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
St. Lawrence Haven is a St. Vincent de Paul-run sack lunch program, located downtown behind Holy Cross Church.
Approximately 200-500 meals are served each day. The staff at St. Lawrence Haven is very appreciative of the assistance we provide and we are thankful for the alumni and friends who have taken time out of their busy schedules to help with this service endeavor!
If you are interested in helping, please email Terri Kernan at tkernan@cdeducation.org .

Bishop John Watterson Honored

In the spirit of ecumenical relationships, First Congregational Church celebrated Bishop John Ambrose Watterson on Friday, September 27, 2019 at the Washington Gladden Social Justice Park at the corner of East Broad Street and Cleveland Avenue in Columbus. Bishop Watterson was the second bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Columbus, serving from 1880-1899. Rev. Washington Gladden and Bishop Watterson were great friends at a time when many Protestant ministers would not associate with Catholic priests or bishops. They partnered to address social issues in Columbus, including municipal government reforms and restrictions on gambling and liquor sales. Rev. Gladden denounced bigoted attacks on the Catholic Church, which were common at the time. He received an honorary degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1895, making him the first non-Catholic to receive this honor. Also, First Congregational Church was the first Abolitionist church in central Ohio. Together, Bishop Watterson and Rev. Gladden tackled the issues of the day and left a legacy worth celebrating.

Congratulations to Liam Lenzotti, Sophia Kairis, Fred Gilbert, Bridget Dougherty, Isaiah Manual and Tabitha Granchay!

2019 Homecoming Hall of Fame Inductee: Marian Hutson

Retired Principal Marian Hutson was honored at our 2019 Homecoming Assembly. She becomes the newest member of our Homecoming Hall of Fame, recognized for nearly 40 years of service to BWHS, including a 16-year tenure as principal. Ms. Hutson oversaw the expansion of the school’s curriculum as well as numerous construction projects that have doubled the square footage of campus facilities.
