Can You Code?

Grace students can!
Each year Grace students participate in the Hour of Code Week. Mrs. Reynolds works with students during the weeks leading up to the Hour of Code week to let them know about the week and why it exists: to introduce coding to students at a young age, to help students understand what coding is and how it is helpful while learning problem solving skills and character traits, and to interest students in the field of computer science as a career.

The international Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code," to show that anyone can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts.

Grace students have enjoyed participating in the Hour of Code for several years now.
And the Winners Are...

We had a yearbook cover design contest...
Many, many students entered drawings into the school wide contest for best yearbook cover design. Four finalists were selected: Lydia, Regan, Ava, and Cecilia. Each entry was beautiful and captured something special about Grace. After a campus wide vote, one entry was selected as the overall winner.

Congrats to Cecilia for her winning design that will be featured on this year's yearbook cover. There were so many wonderful entries - congratulations to everyone that participated.
Picture Retake Day is Monday
If you need your child's picture retaken, or if your child missed picture day:
If your child missed picture day, please send them to school tomorrow (Monday) in their regular school uniform. They can change into PJs AFTER they have their photo taken at 8:30 AM.

If your child needs to have his/her picture retaken, he/she is supposed to have the original proof that was sent home with them to give to the photographer. This is the photography company's request. If you can no longer locate the original proof, your child can attempt to have his/her picture retaken, but it is up to the discretion of the photographer, not Grace. We will do everything we can to help make a retake happen.

Congratulations to our new 2nd grade Artist of the Week, Toby. Toby used paint and oil pastel to create a beautiful Tuscan landscape. His painting is full of red poppy flowers. Beautiful work, Toby.

This week Braxton and Ethan were selected as preschool Artists of the Week. Both used a cardboard tube as a stamp to dip in paint and then "stamp" a Christmas Tree. They each added their own star, the Star of Bethlehem, on top of the tree. Lastly, they painted with glitter pens to add beautiful lighted ornaments to represent The Light of Christ.

Mark Your Calendars!
Superheroes are taking over the 8K River Day! New theme, temporary location due to road construction, same epic race.
Who’s YOUR superhero…Superman, Wonder Woman, a local police officer, a military veteran, a cancer survivor?  We all have at least one favorite hero, so grab your cape and come run with us!  We’ll start at the fire station, with some local superheroes, and continue on a certified 5K and 8K course, as we run through old Orange Park. We'll even have a 1 mile fun run course for those that just want a shorter course!

The 5K/8K Superhero Run is the perfect race for serious runners looking to improve times (a great training run for the Gate) and for runners looking for a FUN event with live music, plenty of hero costumes, and a lively runner’s village.  Technical shirts will be given to all participants, and custom designed finisher medals will be presented to all 5K/8K finishers at the finish line.  Age group and overall awards will be presented to 8K finishers.

All proceeds directly benefit Grace, so mark your calendars now for Saturday, February 16th. Use the code EARLYBIRD to receive $5 off when you register before 12/31/18.
