Keeping the St. Johns River Clean
At Grace, we empower students to become self-directed critical thinkers.
The St. Johns Riverkeeper is a local nonprofit organization whose mission is to be an independent voice that defends, advocates, and activates others to protect and restore the St. Johns River. Grace's Middle School has partnered with the Riverkeeper for several years, giving our students real, hands-on experience with this organization's important work.

Members of the Riverkeeper visited Grace's Elementary students to last week to share their River Ecology program. Students explored the ecology of the St. Johns River and learned about the plants and animals that live there, including manatees, blue crab, osprey, otters, turtles, alligators, tape grass, and mullet. They learned about habitats and food chains that exist in our local environment. They also explored the ways we can each do our part to take care of our waterways and preserve a home for our animal friends.

Grace is proud to partner with such a meaningful group within our community.
Are you planning for college?
Grace students are!
At Grace, we challenge students to thrive in an academically rigorous environment.
In January, eighth grade teacher, Mrs. Arfsten, talked with students about making resolutions and setting meaningful personal goals. Students were asked to think about where they saw themselves in ten years. In order to imagine where they would be in ten years, a number of the students wanted to research where they would attend college. It was this lesson that led to the development of a college research project.

Over the last two weeks students selected a college or university they are interested in attending in the future, and then researched admittance requirements, costs, and degrees offered.

As part of this research project Grace's Middle School students visited Jacksonville University today. They went on a campus tour and learned about life as a college student. It was very eye-opening and motivating for our students. Maybe some of them will even attend JU one day!
An ice pop a day keeps the weeds away!
You don't have to have a green thumb to help our school garden grow!
