Executive Functioning
Tue., Oct. 9, 8:45-10 AM in the youth room or Wed., Oct. 10, 6:30-8 PM in the sanctuary
Executive Functioning skills include a variety of interrelated abilities that help each of us manage time oriented tasks and monitor them. Effective budgeting of time and accurately assessing the demands of a task, along with an understanding of the variables that may impact these demands are key abilities. Initiation (starting), inhibition (stopping), and self-regulation (monitoring) of certain of these behaviors are also major skills. Finally, maintenance of focus and development of resiliency during stressful tasks, along with accurate appraisal of strengths and needs and development of a sense of a learning profile comprise this complex series of capabilities. Wanzenberg and Associates will share their vast knowledge in this area and help parents recognize when their children are effectively utilizing these skills and when helpful intervention might be considered. We regret childcare is not available for the Wed. evening event.
