Principal's Corner
Here’s what’s newsworthy this week:
·         Our students are almost finished MAP testing. We will be using their results to assess academic progress and refine instructional practices.
·         The bins for Student Council’s coat drive are overflowing—what a blessing! The coat drive continues through the end of January.
·         Students enjoyed a day off school for MLK Day; sledding and playing in the snow, which is good because the extreme cold this week may be keeping them indoors.
·         Attendance and academic awards were presented after chapel on Wednesday. Thirty students from K-G8 received faithful worship attendance awards, and 36 received outstanding school attendance. Eighteen middle schoolers earned honor roll certificates, and 11 earned high honor roll.
·         Our middle school students held their monthly bake sale, Sweets for Sudan, to raise money to build wells in a region of Africa where 6 million are at crisis or emergency levels of food insecurity. Last year they raised approximately $2,000, which was enough to build multiple wells.
·         This year our school’s annual yearbook will be designed and created by seventh and eighth graders in Yearbook Club, which has its first meeting this week.
Inaugural Varsity Boys Basketball Tournament
Feb. 8-10
Seven schools from as far away as New Haven, Indiana, and Freeport, Illinois, will participate. Games begin Friday evening and continue through Sunday afternoon. Additional activities include a 3-point Shoot Out and a Free Throw Contest on Saturday, as well as the ever-popular Chuck a Duck (made popular at the varsity girls basketball and volleyball tournaments). In addition, Immanuel’s Student Council is hosting a Glow in the Dark dance for students in grades 5-8 from all tournament schools immediately following the Sat. 5:30 PM worship service.
The tournament committee has worked incredibly hard putting this new tournament event together. In order to make it successful, your help is needed. Please consider volunteering an hour or two. Volunteers are needed for admissions and concessions, as well as scoreboard operators and hall monitors. This will be a fun opportunity to serve and cheer on our Eagles. Click to volunteer. Enter your email address (you will not need to create an account), and sign up. (Your email address will not be shared.) If you prefer not to use your email address, please contact Susie Lester at

Explore God
Over the course of seven weeks, we’re tackling some of our biggest questions about life, God, and Jesus. Everyone is invited—this is a great opportunity to invite friends and family who are conflicted about the concept of faith. Invitation cards are available in the church lobby to help you do just that.

There is also an open discussion group exploring these questions on a deeper level. Join the conversation on Mondays at 6:30 PM at Pal Joey's in Batavia.

If you have questions, please contact Pr. Eric Kennaugh at 630 879 7163 or
