Here's what's been happening at
Immanuel Lutheran School!
· Our varsity boys basketball team placed third in their bracket at the Christ-Peoria tournament.
· Our fifth graders had their monthly visit with residents at The Holmstad. They interviewed residents and wrote friendship poems about them, and then everyone played Uno together.
· Our middle school students held their monthly Sweets for Sudan bake sale. They have raised $658 so far this year and are working towards a $1,200 goal to build wells in drought-stricken Sudan in conjunction with a novel they read for literature class.
· I enjoyed reading to our Preschool Enrichment class and playing a couple of rounds of Number Crash with our first graders. It was a ton of fun!
· Our PTL sponsored Teacher Appreciation Week. Our teachers were pampered with a catered lunch, continental breakfast, Snackfest, Barista Day, swag bags, and chair massages. Many, many thanks to those who loved on our teachers and staff!

ILS Cheer Team at State!
The ILS cheer team will be first-time participants in the thirty-fifth annual Illinois Lutheran Sports Association State Cheerleading Championship that will be held Fri., Mar. 1, 2019 at Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois at 6 PM. Video of last year’s State competition is available here .

Nine of the cheerleaders will represent Immanuel-Batavia at the State competition: Tessa Lejeck, Jane Acuna, Julia Schoppe, Julia Viehweg, Jorie Anderson, Kayleigh McLane, Olivia Groetken, Colleen Siemann, and Sarah Jerdee. The team is coached by fifth grade teacher/assistant principal Penny Suydam and parent volunteer Melissa Lejeck.
In addition to their regular practices and game commitments, Immanuel’s State cheer team has participated in additional practices for this competition since last September. They will compete against last year’s winning team from Zion Lutheran School in Belleville, Illinois, along with several other schools. “The girls have really worked hard on lifts and extensions. This year we added an extension and our dance moves have increased in difficulty. We also added more tumbling than we have had in the past,” Coach Suydam shared.

When asked for her thoughts on this new level of competition for Immanuel students involved in this sport, assistant coach Melissa Lejeck said, “I would like to say that these girls have been working hard at mastering their stunts this season. I am very proud of them for all their hard work and am looking forward to our upcoming competition. It’s been such a pleasure working with them!”

Explore God
Over the course of seven weeks, we’re tackling some of our biggest questions about life, God, and Jesus. Everyone is invited—this is a great opportunity to invite friends and family who are conflicted about the concept of faith. Invitation cards are available in the church lobby to help you do just that.

There is also an open discussion group exploring these questions on a deeper level. Join the conversation on Mondays at 6:30 PM at Pal Joey's in Batavia.

If you have questions, please contact Pr. Eric Kennaugh at 630 879 7163 or ekennaugh@immanuelbatavia.org
