Primary Division Adding New Security Measure to Campus
Our top priority remains providing a safe and secure school environment for our students. As part of an ongoing review of our safety and security measures, we are exploring the feasibility of an additional layer of security to our Primary Division campus. Late next week, we will be installing a privacy screen along the fence facing W. Watrous Ave. This is being done on a trial basis as we research best practice.

Talking to Your Children about Coronavirus

Concern over the coronavirus (COVID-19) can make children and families anxious. Children often look to adults for guidance on how to react to stressful events. If parents seem overly worried, children’s anxiety may rise.

Helping children cope with anxiety requires providing accurate prevention information and facts without causing undue alarm. While children do need reassurance about their safety and wellbeing, they also need factual, age appropriate information about the potential seriousness of coronavirus and concrete instruction about preventing infection or spread of the disease.

Teaching children positive preventive measures, talking with them about their fears, and giving them a sense of some control over their risk of infection can help reduce anxiety. The National Association of School Psychologists offers helpful guidance to parents with their piece, Talking to Children About COVID-19 (Coronavirus): A Parent Resource

And be sure to visit the St. John's website for updates and resources regarding the coronavirus.

Planning Update: Facemasks Supplied for Each Campus

St. John's continues to closely monitor COVID-19 and proactively plan for many different possible scenarios. In addition to the actions steps we've taken, we have also supplied each campus with facemasks to be used in the event a student exhibits virus-like symptoms and requires isolation prior to pick-up and/or transport to a doctor. Our highest priority is ensuring the health and safety of our entire St. John’s school community, and we will continue to keep you updated as the situation evolves.
St. John's Students are Fantastic "Drop Savers!"
Jennie Collins, K(4)-Grade 4 Art Teacher

Through the initiative of St. John's 3rd and 4th grade Brownie troop, our students were encouraged to participate in the Hillsborough County Public Utilities and the City of Tampa Water Department “Drop Savers” poster contest.

Our students created posters depicting a water conservation idea in slogan or drawing form, focusing on the importance of water conservation. A panel of VERY impressed teachers and staff from Grades 1-4 chose winners. These students will be presented with a personalized flask water bottle at chapel this Thursday, March 5, and their art will be entered into the city-wide competition.

Please feel free to join us for the chapel presentation this Thursday, and help us send a special congratulations to Mollie, Kinsley, Samantha, and Luke!
