From Our Principal
Hello!

Welcome to Fall! Yes, the season of Fall started officially on Tuesday, August 22nd. We are glad that the air quality improved and we were able to complete the photo for the 6th grade students on that first day of Fall.

We know Fall has also brought additional surveys for you to complete as we plan for possible re-opening of in person instruction. If I can help you with anything about the survey, please reach out and I will contact you. We recognize the immense challenge of the changing landscape of schools and schooling during this pandemic and want to help where we can. The most effective way to contact me is through my email at [email protected]. If you include the best time and way to reach you I will do my best to respond quickly. We are in this together and together we will make good things happen!

We have openings for 2 parent representatives on our school site council this year. This is a year long commitment and the council has meetings once a month until May. These meetings have been in the early morning in the past, although this year may bring a change in that timing. Please contact me if you have an interest in serving on the council.

Thank you for all you continue to do to partner with us in the education of students. I want to continue to give you special thanks for your participation and support with Remote Learning.

With much appreciation and gratitude,

Rebecca Ingram

October DVMS Celebrates Positive Attitudes
DVMS PTSA is proud to support the Student of the Month program. Every month, each teacher selects one student who exemplifies the monthly character trait. We have 10 new character traits to celebrate for our 20th Anniversary and beyond. See the Student of the Month School Year Calendar for details.

September Students of the Month (Adaptability) will be recognized on October 7th and will be published in the next newsletter.

The trait for October is Positive Attitude. Trying to have a positive attitude is immensely helpful during remote learning. Thank you to our Eagles and teachers for bringing a positive attitude to class each day!

Child Nutrition
SRVUSD Child Nutrition Program Update
The Free for All Student Meal program, sponsored by the USDA, is in effect until December 31, 2020. In addition to this program, USDA is also sponsoring the Farmers to Families Food Box Program that helps farmers distribute their surplus food products to families in need nationwide. Please note that the number of food boxes we receive depends on our supplier and is not something the Child Nutrition Department controls. Food boxes are distributed one day a week and are available on a first come, first served basis onlyWe hope that our families most in need will be able to take advantage of receiving these and encourage these families to arrive early on Wednesdays to one of our 8 distribution sites. While we do not discourage anyone, please only take the food boxes if you need them. We have enough for those that are truly in need. We do not have the same limitations with the Breakfast and Lunch Meals and therefore can provide student meals to all children 18 and under.

Due to safety concerns, families are asked to remain in their vehicles and in line when picking up food. Staff members will assist families in order. For complete information, please visit the Child Nutrition website and FAQs.

Breakfast/Lunch Meals
  • Any parent with children 18 years old and under can pick up a breakfast & lunch meal at our designated meal locations for free. Parents do not have to pre-order.
  • Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian options will be available
  • Meals will be distributed on Monday (2 breakfasts and 2 lunches) and Wednesday (3 breakfasts and 3 lunches) at the current 8 locations
  • Serving times: 10 a.m.- 1 p.m.
  • Parents unable to pick up student meals should contact Child Nutrition at 925-824-1808 or [email protected] to make other arrangements.
  • Child Nutrition Services will ensure families with children in need receive meals.

USDA Food Boxes
  • USDA Food Boxes will be available at 8 school locations every Wednesday.
  • The Child Nutrition Department does not control how many boxes will be available weekly nor does it have control over what is inside the produce boxes.
  • There is no charge for the food boxes.
  • The Child Nutrition Department is unable to take reservations of produce boxes; please arrive early if your family would like or needs a produce box.

SRVUSD Social workers are available to help families in need. Food insecurity should not occur, and families should not suffer silently. Social services resources can be found here. Please contact your school's support counselor for more assistance.

DVMS Education Foundation
Thank you to all of our wonderful DVMS families. The generosity in our community makes all of the difference for our children.  The DVMS Foundation continues to work towards achieving  100% of our goal for the  school year.  With your support, DVMS Foundation will be able to fund additional sections and reduce the average class size from 35:1 down to 29:1.

SPONSOR FAMILY PROGRAM

Last year DVMS started a new program during registration giving individual families the opportunity to become Foundation sponsors. Their generous contributions makes a big impact on our ability to meet our goal so early in the school year.

A very special THANK YOU to our Foundation Sponsor Families for their generous support:

CORPORATE MATCHING PROGRAM
Many companies offer corporate match programs as a benefit for their employees. If you are unsure if your company offers this benefit, please contact one of our corporate match volunteers, and we will research it for you. You can also check out the Double the Donation website to see if your company matches.

The Diablo Vista Middle School Foundation is a distinct charity and has its own taxpayer identification number or EIN number (94-3373022) but falls under the umbrella of the San Ramon Valley Education Fund. When requesting a corporate match, please search using the taxpayer identification number or EIN number (94-3373022) if possible. If the San Ramon Valley Education Fund comes up, the funds will be directed to us if our taxpayer identification number is used. If there is an option to direct where the funds are to be used, please add Diablo Vista Middle School Foundation or DVMS.

Thank you,
Lisa Gross

Reflections Art Contest
All students are invited to participate and submit original artwork in one of six areas (click for specific rules for that category):

Be sure to also review the General Rules from CA State PTA.

  • Use the easy electronic form by Friday October 16!
  • All entries will be featured in a virtual showcase!
  • Each entrant will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win one set of Apple Airpods!

Reflections is also a competition. Artworks are submitted first to school-level PTAs, then a selection of entries are sent on to councils and then districts for consideration. The final artworks submitted to California State PTA by districts are then considered for Outstanding Interpretation, Awards of Excellence or Awards of Merit. Outstanding Interpretation and Award of Excellence entries then go on to represent California in the final National PTA judging round.

Entry submissions will be virtual this year and will be due on Friday October 16, 2020 by 7 PM.

Entry rules, additional information about the program, and past winners can be found on the California State PTA website and DVMS PTSA Questions? Contact the DVMS Reflections Chair, Christian Park.
