Things: An event or action; that which happens or falls out, or that which is done, told or proposed. This is the general signification of the word in the Scriptures; as after these things, that is, events. And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight, because of his son. Genesis 21:11. Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, the thing proceedeth from the Lord. Genesis 24:50. And Jacob said, all these things are against me. Gen 42. I will tell you by what authority I do these things. Matthew 21:24. These things said Esaias when he saw his glory. John 12:16. Any substance; that which is created; any particular article or commodity. A portion or part; something; in contempt.
This is the one place in the whole of the scriptures whereby the translators combined the word deep and things together to present to us the ‘deep things’ of God. Perhaps what was occurring is that the translators wanting to emphasize an all-inclusive thought that left nothing out and gave the reader an idea that all things of heaven are translated into this one Greek word, bathos.
Things often seem so insignificant to the whole of something but can be a powerful word if mixed with the proper thought, such as ‘deep things’. This is very generic yet adds to us a sense of all-inclusiveness to the point that nothing is left out, absolutely nothing. I mention in my teachings in the Warrior Class the emphasizing of a simple little word like ‘All’. In presenting my thoughts where the Word of God is concerned, all means All.
I can’t imagine anyone being smarter, wiser, more knowledgeable, more powerful, more into what He does than God almighty. When we read His Word, we often blow over the idea that all is all and mixes together with things. Mark 10:27 (NKJV) But Jesus looked at them and said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible." I want to emphasize what God is saying to the church and to get the right priority in place to understand it fully. We must note that all things mean just exactly that, but to clarify, all things are possible with God.
So how do we bring justice to light in reading this passage. Well, we must have a complete understanding of how all this plays out in the Kingdom of God. You see, God put Himself on the inside of the believer and in doing so, He equipped us to do miraculous things. The church, however, has watered down this event to the point that much of the miraculous has been laid aside or discarded altogether. God can seldom show His ‘All things’ and is quite frankly, been reduced to a convenience or a habit or a point of security, not in a position of Creator of the Universe or all powerful One. Nonetheless, the idea here is to understand that it is our responsibility to demonstrate the power of God in all things that we do for this is the way He has set it up.
