"Man's"

1 Corinthians 2:13 (KJV) Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

1 Corinthians 2:13 (NIV) This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.

1 Corinthians 2:13 (ESV) And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.

1 Corinthians 2:13 (NLT2) When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths.

Man’s: A male individual of humans, of adult growth or years. A male of people; used often in compound words, or in an adjective; as a man-child; men-cooks; men-servants. An individual of the human species. One who is master of his mental powers, or who conducts himself with his usual judgment. When a person has lost his senses, or acts without his usual judgment, we say, he is not his own man. In popular usage, a husband. Every wife ought to answer for her man. This word, however, is always used in the singular number, referring to an individual.

Greek: Anthropinos [anth-ro’-pee-nos] = man’s [3], after the manner of man [1], of man [1], common to man [1], mankind+G5449][1]. from (anthropos); human: - human, common to man, man [-kind], [man-]kind, men, after the manner of men. Strong's Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. Usage Notes: "human, belonging to man" (from anthrōpos, see MAN, is used (a) of man's wisdom, in 1 Cor. 2:13 (some mess. have it in ver. 4, where indeed it is implied;  (b) of "man's judgement," 1 Cor. 4:3 ;(c) of "mankind," Jas. 3:7, lit., "the human nature," (Authorized V, "nature of man"); (d) of human ordinance, 1 Pet. 2:13; Moulton and Milligan show from the papyri how strongly antithetic to the Divine the use of the word is in this respect; (e) of temptation, 1 Cor. 10:13, RV, "such as man can bear" (AV, "such as is common to man"), i.e., such as must and does come to "men;" (f) of "men's" hands, Acts 17:25; (g) in the phrase "after the manner of men," Rom. 6:19  (3) In Rom. 5:17, the RV rightly has "the trespass of the one," for AV, "one man's offense." Vine's Expository Dictionary of Old Testament and New Testament Words.

God made it quite clear at the Tower of Babel how He feels about man and what He had created. There was nothing impossible to man if they simply stayed in agreement and focused on the task at hand and not how difficult it may seem. However, we know from this account of scripture that the ‘thorn in the side’ to God was the evil and iniquity that was found in their hearts. Genesis 11:1 (NLT2) At one time all the people of the world spoke the same language and used the same words. Genesis 11:4 (NLT2) Then they said, “Come, let’s build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered all over the world.” Genesis 11:6 (NLT2) “Look!” he said. “The people are united, and they all speak the same language. After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them!

This was a mighty understanding of the power of man and his ability to do things apart from God and these folks wanted to become famous because of their abilities to work together after one cause and one plan. I am sure they had a whole series of structures for organization which allowed them to function together and come to a common goal. Nonetheless, by God’s standards, they were moving forward to accomplish whatever they had deemed necessary for the common good.

I think of the modern church and how fragmented and disorganized they have become, even to the point that we are scattered and unable to come to a common goal. In this case it is not the language that has become our barrier, but the interpretation of the Words of God and His plan and His ideas about man. We have not been able to agree on much, so this is a great discord in the Body of Christ. There is so much difference in interpretation and so much left out on the working of the Holy Spirit, which is needful if we are to ‘get a grip’ on our country and unite in a way that we can do the impossible as these men of Babel were able to do.

We are a great nation already, for God has ordained it so, but unless we unite and agree together, we will constantly be fragmented as the Babel folks were. This is going to take a decision by all of us to commit to reading, studying and meditating on the Word and even though we may not understand it, we trust in and believe in it with our whole heart. Then God will step in and reverse the curse of the Tower of Babel and Babylon, unite us and we will become a mighty army, invincible to the world.
