Knew: To have clear and certain perception; not to be doubtful; to be informed; to examine.
Greek: ginosko [ghin-oce’ko] present tense= know [196, perceive [9], understand [8], misc. [10]. Notes: signifies "to be taking in knowledge, to come to know, recognize, understand," or "to understand completely," e.g., Mark 13:28, 29; John 13:12; John 15:18; John 21:17; 2 Cor. 8:9; Heb. 10:34; 1 John 2:5; 1 John 4:2, 6 (twice),7,13; 1 John 5:2, 20; in its past tenses it frequently means "to know in the sense of realizing," the aorist or point tense usually indicating definiteness, Matt. 13:11; Mark 7:24; John 7:26; in John 10:38 "that ye may know (aorist tense) and understand, (present tense);" John 19:4; Acts 1:7; Acts 17:19; Rom. 1:21; 1 Cor. 2:11 (2nd part),14; 2 Cor. 2:4; Eph. 3:19; Eph. 6:22; Phil. 2:19; Phil. 3:10; 1 Thess. 3:5; 2 Tim. 2:19; Jas. 2:20; 1 John 2:13 (twice),14; 1 John 3:6; 1 John 4:8; 2 John 1:1; Rev. 2:24; Rev. 3:3, 9. The word for ‘knew’ here in the KJV could be more accurately translated understood as referenced in our posting under the AMP version. These folks knew who he was by the miracles that were performed, but as in days of old, there are always a few bad ‘eggs’ in the basket that ruins it for everyone. Matthew 12:22-24 (KJV) Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. 23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David? 24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, this fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
Thinking about the nation Israel standing at the Jordan River with fear screaming up and down the ranks, so they came up with a foolish decision. “Let’s send spies out to scout out the land to see if this is where we want to go”. There was never an idea of simply “What does God tell us to do”, but a form of doubt to ‘check it out or try’. Well, we all know what happened, ten bad reports and just two good and this is all that it took to run them over the top. Now, this fight is never going to happen because of ten fearful spies and the tragedy began. No current warrior would ever be able to go over into the promised land, because of the ‘social media’ of their day and the bad reports of a few [there was estimated to be over 4 million Jews in the camp]. These men all thought they knew or understood the thing that God was doing, but rather listened to the leadership through Godly leaders, the whole thing fell apart.
Well, this often turns on the ungodly and the devil’s crowd and often He steps in and does something very miraculous. This is the action going on in this scripture because God used the world and all its ignorance to change the known world and it would never be the same again. They crucified the Lord of Glory and bought the right to place Himself on the inside of all of us who believe. This was the greatest accomplishment of all time and will never be anything greater. Christ in us the hope of glory. Colossians 1:27 (AMP) To whom God was pleased to make known how great for the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ within and among you, the Hope of [realizing the] glory.
