Who Knows

Part 3 of 5

"Save"

1 Corinthians 2:11 (KJV) For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

1 Corinthians 2:11(NIV) For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

1 Corinthians 2:11(ESV) For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

1 Corinthians 2:11 (NLT2) No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit.

Save: To preserve from injury, destruction or evil of any kind; to rescue from danger; to preserve from final and everlasting destruction; to rescue from eternal death; to deliver; to rescue from the power and pollution of sin; to hinder from being spent or lost.

Greek: ei me [I may] =but [53], save [16], except [6], if not [5]. from (ei) and (me); if not: - but, except (that), if not, more than, save (only) that, saving, till. Strong's Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. The two Greek words that comprise this word ei me is haply [Gr 1487] and nothing [Gr 3756]. Ei=Usage Notes: denotes "if therefore," "if accordingly," (i.e., if in these circumstances), e.g., Mark 11:13, of Christ and the fig tree (not "if perchance," but marking a correspondence in point of fact). Me= Notes: a negative particle, often used as a conjunction, is frequently translated "lest," e.g., Mark 13:36 (in ver. 5, Revised V, "that no," for Authorized V, "lest"); Acts 13:40; Acts 23:10. Vine's Expository Dictionary of Old Testament and New Testament Words.

This Greek word ei me comes from two different words. This can be seen in the Greek definition of the word ei me. It does not represent the idea of saving, salvation and the born-again experience but is a simple form of saving as one would save an animal from a raging river. This is what the KJV is attempting to get across. Perhaps a more distinct approach at the translation would be to use the word but or except, which is by far the way this word is translated throughout the Bible by the KJV.

This word save is being used to denote the difference between the knowing of oneself and what others may know about you. Of course, there is the knowing of you by God Himself through the power of the Spirit which was placed there by God when you were born and will carry on till the day you die and then there will be separation between the body, soul and spirit.

The spirit of man is the whole ‘9 yards’ for it is the one thing that separates us from the animal Kingdom and is used to bring us to heaven when the time occurs. God wants us to understand that he placed the spirit on the inside of us to bring us life and light and to sustain us while on the earth. It is the spirit that gives life and brings us salvation. I like the reading of the Amplified as it is attempting to show us the responsibility of man to know himself and to live in a way that is pleasing to the Father. This is the joy of our whole life, and it is so vital in having life and life more abundantly.
