Spirit: An immaterial intelligent being; an apparition; a ghost; life or strength of resemblance; essential qualities; the renewed nature of man.
Greek: pneuma[payoo’-mah] =Spirit [111], Holy Ghost [89], Spirit of God[1d3], Spirit of the Lord [5], my spirit [3], Spirit of Christ [2], human spirit. from (pneo); a current of air, i.e. breath (blast) or a breeze; by analogy or figurative a spirit, i.e. (human) the rational soul, (by implicaiton) vital principle, mental disposition, etc., or (superhuman) an angel, demon, or (divine) God, Christ's spirit, the Holy Spirit: - ghost, life, spirit (-ual, -ually), mind. Strong's Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. Usage Notes: primarily denotes "the wind" (akin to pneō, "to breathe, blow"); also "breath;" then, especially "the spirit," which, like the wind, is invisible, immaterial and powerful. The NT uses of the word may be analyzed approximately as follows:"(a) the wind, John 3:8 (where marg. is, perhaps, to be preferred); Heb. 1:7; cp. Amos 4:13, Septuagint.; (b) the breath, 2 Thess. 2:8; Rev. 11:11; Rev. 13:15; cp. Job 12:10, Sept.; (c) the immaterial, invisible part of man, Luke 8:55; Acts 7:59; 1 Cor. 5:5; Jas. 2:26; cp. Eccl. 12:7, Sept.; (d) the disembodied (or 'unclothed,' or 'naked,' 2 Cor. 5:3, 4) man, Luke 24:37, 39; Heb. 12:23; 1 Pet. 4:6 (k) the Holy Spirit, e.g., Matt. 4:1 (see below); Luke 4:18; (l) 'the inward man' (an expression used only of the believer, Rom. 7:22; 2 Cor. 4:16; Eph. 3:16); the new life, Rom. 8:4-6, 10, 16; Heb. 12:9; cp. Psa. 51:10; (o) divine gift for service, 1 Cor. 14:12, 32; (p) by metonymy, those who claim to be depositories of these gifts, 2 Thess. 2:2; 1 John 4:1-3; Vine's Expository Dictionary of Old Testament and New Testament Words.
Make no mistake about it, this word for spirit is an all-encompassing word when it comes to the things of the spirit of God. Accordingly, it is the same word used for the spirit of man and the Spirit of God.
If we look at the creation evidence in the Bible for man’s beginning existence, we find that God breathed the breath of Life into man and he became a God Being, created in the image of God and filled with His Spirit. Genesis 1:27 (KJV) So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Genesis 2:7 (AMP) Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath or spirit of life, and man became a living being.
This one single act was responsible for putting man into God’s class, and were it not for the fall, there would never have been sin and the world we now live in, would have been an absolute utopia. But along comes the serpent, who is not Lucifer as so many folks want to address, he was an animal who was the most cunning and sneaky of all the animals in the garden. Genesis 3:1 (NLT2) The serpent was the shrewdest [craftiest, clever, cunning, subtle] of all the wild animals the LORD God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?” Notice the serpent challenged Eve to the abstinence of the whole of the garden, but this was just not the case. As a matter of fact, it was the complete opposite in that God allowed the whole of the Garden except for one tree, the Tree of Good and Evil. God had to allow the choice, or He would have restricted Adam and Eve and Free Will would have never been established.
The point here is don’t get negative towards God if your prayers have not been answered yet. He will do what He says and, in the meantime, grow up a little bit and move to a higher place where God can trust you and use you for more. Don’t give the devil any place in doubt. Your answer will come when you have learned the lesson He is attempting to teach you. He loves you and has taken up residence on the inside of you and that is a big deal with God, after all, you are one of His children.
