No Disappointment

Part 2 of 6

"Disappointment"

Romans 5:5 (NKJV) “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”

Romans 5:5 (AMP) Such hope never disappoints or deludes or shames us, for God's love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us.

Romans 5:5 (NLT2) And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

Romans 5:5 (GW) We're not ashamed to have this confidence, because God's love has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Ashamed [Disappoint NKJV]: To defeat of expectation, wish, hope, desire or intention; to frustrate; to balk; to hinder from the possession or enjoyment of that which was intended, desired, hoped or expected. We say, a man is disappointed of his hopes or expectations, or his hopes, desires, intentions or expectations are disappointed.

Greek: inkataischyno [kat-ahee-skhoo’-no]: ashamed [7], confound [3], dishonor [2], shame [1]. from (kata) and (aischunomai); to shame down, i.e. disgrace or (by implication) put to the blush :- confound, dishonor, (be a-, make a-) shame (-d). Strong's Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. Usage Notes: another strengthened form (kata, "down," intensive), is used (a) in the Active Voice, "to put to shame," e.g., Rom. 5:5; 1 Cor. 1:27 (AV, "confound"); 1 Cor. 11:4, 5 ("dishonoreth"), and 1 Cor. 11:22, DISHONOR, SHAME.

I am focusing on the NKJV translation to bring about a point of clarity on this scripture. The word for disappoint is the Greek word inkataischyno which has the idea of discouragement defeat and as we look at the meaning behind the scripture, we simply see that hope does not disappoint or cause any kind of shame or disgrace.

In other words, we are totally OK with the Father of Lights and there is no shifting shadow or confusion in what God has promised us and granted to us. Our Hope in Him is steadfast and will never change towards us. That does not mean that there cannot be a schism between us, but it is not God ordained or controlled. It is all in our court and the love of God is not a respecter of persons. It is always the same, ever with us and working on our behalf.

If we stay close to Him and allow Him to change us and mold us into His image, we will be able to do what He does, think the way He does, and get results the way He does. This is what Jesus meant when He simply told us we have His mindRomans 15:5 (NASB) Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, 1 Corinthians 1:10 (NKJV) Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 1 Corinthians 1:10 (AMP) But I urge and entreat you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you be in perfect harmony and full agreement in what you say, and that there be no dissensions or factions or divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in your common understanding and in your opinions and judgments. God has prepared us, equipped us and empowered us to be just like Him and it should be our goal to rule and reign in life just like He does, with our focus on the Hope that has been granted and installed in all believers.
