Preach: To pronounce a public discourse on a religious subject, or from a subject, or from a text of Scripture.
Greek: kerysso [kay-roos’-so] =preach [51], publish [5], proclaim [2], preacher [1]. to herald (as a public crier), especially divine truth (the gospel): - preach (-er), proclaim, publish. Strong's Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. Signifies (a) "to be a herald," or, in general, "to proclaim," e.g., Matt. 3:1; Mark 1:45, "publish;" in Luke 4:18, Vine's Expository Dictionary of Old Testament and New Testament Words.
This scripture portrays a typical response by the world to an event that was not truly fleshly, yet the world recognizes everything by the flesh which includes the mind, will, and emotions. In other words, they certainly are not going to believe or understand anything that is spiritual or supernatural. This problem also is in the general church, in that they are dismissing away the supernatural status of the Bible and the preaching of Christ. We are evolving away from these most significant qualities as they are not being taught to the children because the parents have no understanding themselves. Christ and His fullness have not been a part of the teachings and the general church and so gets missing in the generations of folks.
This was always a problem with the Jewish people as all throughout the Old Covenant, God would bless them and then they would shortly forsake the Lord. We vividly see this in the exodus and Red Sea experience. It was a matter of a few short weeks and just after the miraculous of leaving Egypt with abundance and then the parting of the Red Sea only to build a golden calf as Moses was in the mountain receiving Holy Writ from the Father. This is the sad nature of man and Christ, redeemed man, gave him gifts and fruit to guide and direct, yet we end up building ‘golden calves’ despite the great blessings bestowed upon us from the Father of Creation. What do you mean, we have golden calves. We put cars, houses, clothes and every type of material thing ahead of God and this is the definition of a ‘golden calf’. Anything that you put ahead of God becomes your idol. It may be money, a material thing, a doctor, a professor, a religion, going to a church building for the sake of satisfying a habit or security. It can be sports, partying, education and the list continues. This is the problem of an affluent society and the problems that this affluence can cause if you don’t get your success and money from Christ and not yourself. You can even set yourself up as an idol with arrogance and pride and the evil way.
The proclaiming of Christ crucified is the message of the ages and only can one generate the proper perspective of this in life by following the Word of God and its fullness and completeness. Christ is all in all and there is nothing left out to debate or consider. It is finished and the victory has been won by the preaching of the Cross and the magnitude of what it represents: wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and redemption. How in the ‘world’ can you add to that list. Unfortunately, many believers, let alone the world, are still trying to get there even though they already have it. 1 Corinthians 1:30 (NASB77) But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption.
