Natural: According to the stated course of things. According to life; Discoverable by reason; not revealed; produced or coming in the ordinary course of things; illegitimate; born out of wedlock; native.
Greek: Psychikos [psoo-khee-kos’]=natural[4], sensual[2]: from (psuche); sensitive, i.e. animate (in distinction on the one hand from (pneumatikos), which is the higher or renovated nature; and on the other from (phusikos), which is the lower or bestial nature) :- natural, sensual. Strong's Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. Usage Notes: "belonging to the psychē, soul" (as the lower part of the immaterial in man), "natural, physical," describes the man in Adam and what pertains to him (set in contrast to pneumatikos, "spiritual"), 1 Cor. 2:14; 1 Cor. 15:44 (twice),46 (in the latter used as a noun); Jas. 3:15, "sensual" (RevisedV marg., "natural" or "animal"), here relating perhaps more especially to the mind, a wisdom in accordance with, or springing from, the corrupt desires and affections; so in Jude 1:19. Vine's Expository Dictionary of Old Testament and New Testament Words.
This is a powerful word presented to us right here in the middle of this great passage of I Corinthians 2. I hope all my partners and readers are gaining insight into the idea of spiritual things. I am concerned about the body of Christ and their friendship with the world and its ideas and ways of doing things and being right in their own eyes. Proverbs 28:11 (AMP) The rich man is wise in his own eyes and conceit, but the poor man who has understanding will find him out. Proverbs 21:2 (AMP) Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs and tries the hearts. Judges 21:25 (NLT2) In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.
This concept is born out in the 5 wise and 5 foolish virgins, the wheat and the tares and the foolish man who buried his talent. This speaks of folks who live for today, who act like the world with no exercise of faith, and the retired man who works all his life to be retired and do nothing on the back of a nation and its working folks. These all speak of men and women who were focused on themselves and not the Kingdom of God and what God expects of His people. The nation Israel did the same thing when it got very comfortable in Egypt and lost its sense of responsibility and the promise of the Father to make them a great nation and give them a country all their own.
Natural speaks of people who are sensual in nature and does not allow the Word of God speak to them and center their soulish realm into the power and the Lordship of Jesus. After all, living in the United States can make one quite comfortable and in this become lazy and have no need of the influence of the Holy Spirit and being led by Him. This is where we see a great deal of difference between psychikos [natural] and pneumatikos [spiritual]. In which camp are you and if you claim to be a Christian, there can only be one answer. Are you on fire for God or are you going to miss this great revival that has started in this great Nation. Be prepared and don’t be one of the foolish virgins who were not ready.
