Redeemed II

Part 5 of 5

"Healed"

Isaiah 53:5 (KJV) But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Isaiah 53:5 (AMP) But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole.

Isaiah 53:5 (NASB) t He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.

Isaiah 53:5 (NLT2) But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.

Healed: Restored to a sound state. To cure a disease or wound and restore to soundness, or to that state of body in which the natural functions are regularly performed; as, to heal the sick. To remove or subdue. To restore to soundness; to restore purity to; to remove feculence or foreign matter. To purify from corruption; to grow sound; to return to a sound; state.

Hebrew: rapa [raw-faw’]: transliteration +raphah. Heal [57], physician [3], cure [1], repaired [1], or raphah, raw-faw'; a primitive root; properly to mend (by stitching), i.e. (figurative) to cure: - cure. See (raphah). Strong's Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. "To heal.” Gen: "… God healed Abimelech." "To heal" may be described as "restoring to normal," an act which God typically performs. Not only are human diseases "healed," (2 Kings 2:22); salt water is "healed" or made fresh (Ezek. 47:8); A large number of the uses of rāpāʾ express the "healing " of the nation, such "healing" not only involves God's grace and forgiveness, but also the nation's repentance. Divine discipline leads to repentance and "healing. God promises: "For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord…" (Jer. 30:17). Even foreign cities and powers can know God's "healing" if they repent (Jer. 51:8-9). False prophets are condemned because they deal only with the symptoms and not with the deep spiritual hurts of the people. Vine's Expository Dictionary of Old Testament and New Testament Words.

Healing is one of the most discussed topics in the modern church. I hear an untold amount of debate as to whether Jesus still heals today and I have no idea how this debate continues except by the lack of or not appropriating faith on the subject.

Most folks I know have believed at one time or another in healing but in most cases, it did not manifest for the individual in their time frame. They may even have tried it several times, but the outcome was the same. This is not what the scriptures hold for us as evidenced by this scripture in the Old Testament and often in the New. One of the key scriptures I use is found in Mark: Mark 16:17-18 (KJV) And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. So, you may say, “what if God does not want you healed.” And I follow this comment up with the very powerful scripture in 3 John 1:2 (KJV): Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. God’s plan for man is that he stays healthy and prosperous, but the key is the importance of adding the soul to the mix. This is the mind, will and emotions and these are the primary important phase of man’s existence whereby he brings these blessings into his life.
