Part 2 of 5

"Transgression"

Isaiah 53:5 (KJV) But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Isaiah 53:5 (AMP) But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole.

Isaiah 53:5 (NASB) t He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.

Isaiah 53:5 (NLT2) But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.

Transgression: fault; offense; crime; The act of passing over or beyond any law or rule of moral duty; the violation of a law or known principle of rectitude; breach of command.

Hebrew: pesha’ [peh’-shah]: transgression [84], trespass [5], sin [3], rebellion [1]. a revolt (national, moral or religious): - rebellion, sin, transgression, trespass. Strong's Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. The basic sense of pāshaʿ is "to rebel." There are two stages of rebellion. First, the whole process of rebellion has independence in view: Second, the final result of the rebellion is the state of independence: Translations generally give the rendering "transgress" for pāshaʿ when the act is committed against the Lord: "Woe unto them! because they have transgressed against me…" (Hos. 7:13). In each case the act is an expression of an apostate way of life: "In transgressing and lying against the Lord, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood" (Isa. 59:13). Vine's Expository Dictionary of Old Testament and New Testament Words.

Transgressions seem to be the typical way of translating the idea of sin or missing the mark. The real question is it done in secret, by intention or with willful injury. I would say that the bulk of the idea of sin would be the ignorance and rebellion of man and his inability to cope with the idea of a God and the important responsibility of obedience to Him.

Most of us have been in positions of rebellion or just wanting to sow some wild oats. I don’t believe most of us woke up one day and said, ‘I think I will rebel against God today.’ It is born in us to sin, and our nature is to be in rebellion against God at all times. I don’t think most of us truly had God in mind in this rebellion, but none the less, this is where we found ourselves.

The key is to turn away from this rebellion before it is too late. Not that you can’t come to God at any time, but there are times that things happen and there is never going to be another chance. This is one of the great tragedies of life and there are those that get caught up in the making of this rebellious attitude and never come through.

I can remember the time my grandfather, who was rebellious until his 86th year, and two weeks before his death, decided to accept Jesus as his Savior. He had an amazing wife who committed to him to pray for their entire married life, as she took all the children to church every Sunday. It was through church attendance that each of his 6 children found Christ.

It is so important for each of us to spend time with the Father daily and ask Him what is on your mind where your children, grandchildren, and other relatives and friends are concerned. Always keep them in your prayers and never give up no matter how bleak the circumstances seem. God is on your side and is ready, willing and able to keep that which you have committed to Him until that day your answer comes.
