Righteousness: Purity of heart and rectitude of life; conformity of heart and life to the divine law. righteousness as used in Scripture and theology, in which it is chiefly used, is nearly equivalent to holiness, comprehending holy principles and affections of heart, and conformity of life to the divine law. It includes all we call justice, honesty and virtue, with holy affections; in short, it is true religion.
As God has been teaching me about His righteousness and how this righteousness lives in us to build our confidence away from the condemnation that has been taught to most of us, I ran across this amazing scripture.
Here is a man [David] that not only committed adultery but add to that murder. If we had a man that was in prison for such a deed, the modern-day church would consider him an outcast. Here is the King of Israel and he has been caught ‘with his pants down’. To whom much is given, much is required. Because David was King, he was even more responsible. What a terrible act of great evil in our minds, but we find in this verse that David took Bathsheba as his wife and had a baby named Solomon.
Now I want all my partners to understand something quite profound here. Solomon was in the line of Judah and was the son of David and from this union came Jesus. I will never forget the impact this had on me when I read it for the first time, and I could not comprehend why God had the lineage of Christ come through this union. Did God have this planned from the beginning of the world? He could have used a good many of the other sons of David, but God chose this lineage and moved forward with the birth of Christ.
I would venture to say that most of us have a difficult time understanding this amazing example of God’s grace in action. Can you imagine, Jesus coming through a blood line of adultery and murder? How great is our God and how great is his grace to us who believe and choose to walk in the righteousness only He can give! David was not even born again but was considered a faithful and righteous man who had declared over him, “He is the apple of MY eye.” How much more are you to our heavenly Father who have the Spirit of Christ dwelling in us to do of His good pleasure.
The next time you begin to point your finger at someone who does not line up with your religion, bite your tongue and walk away. Don’t get caught in a judgement or condemnation attitude for you will be fighting against a God who declares us righteous by the Blood of Jesus and it is not about any of your efforts, but Christ in us the hope of Glory.
