Season of Creation
By: Dee Bunk-Hatch, Communications Director
September kicked off the Season of Creation, a time set aside to celebrate care for all creation. The Season runs from September 1 to October 4, the Feast of St. Francis, the Patron Saint of Ecology.

According to their website, "The Season of Creation is an annual celebration of prayer and action to protect creation. It is celebrated by Christians of all traditions." The theme for 2019 is "the web of life", meant to emphasize that all creation comes from God and we play a part in it.

The Franciscan Sisters of Allegany have devoted a page on the Congregation's website to the Season of Creation. Within it, you will find prayers and celebration guides to help you recognize the Season. It can be found here.

We are grateful to the members of our Franciscan-Clarian Spirituality Committee who have and will continue to send out resources and weekly reflections for this Season of Creation.

Are you celebrating? Let us know! Email denise.bunk-hatch@fsallegany.org to let us know how you're participating.

Afternoon Tea Fundraiser
By: Margaret Foley OSF
On Saturday, August 31, I participated in the “Beloved and Beautiful” Afternoon Tea Fundraiser at St. Paul’s Church in Tampa, Florida for In The Wildflowers Ministries . The funds raised assist “In The Wildflowers Healing Retreat” in the Tampa Bay area. In The Wildflowers Ministry shares the truth and healing power of Jesus to those who have suffered the trauma of childhood sexual abuse.
The Format of “In The Wildflowers” is:
  • A curriculum comprised of a ten part video series accompanied by a workbook;
  • A retreat designed for small, private group settings led by a certified therapist, who specializes in the treatment for those who have experienced childhood sexual abuse;
  • Each video session includes commentary by Christian counseling professionals, who address each stage in the healing process.
The Objectives of “In The Wildflowers” are:
  • To offer victims of abuse hope for healing by sharing the journeys of other women who have suffered the effects of childhood abuse;
  • To eliminate feelings of shame and isolation and to create a confidential, safe, and loving environment for all participants to share their brokenness and experiences while seeking and working toward wholeness;
  • To lead the participants to the blessings, understanding and faithful acceptance of God’s healing power and unconditional love.
