This year, Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) Montessori Leaders Collaborative (MLC) and Montessori Public Policy Initiative (MPPI) will be collaborating to bring you the 6th Annual Symposium for Montessori Teacher Educators on December 1-2, 2017 in Alexandria, VA.
This event draws Montessori Educators from around the world and is an opportunity for program directors, faculty, heads of schools, and national organizations to discuss topics relevant to Montessori teacher education. This year's Symposium will focus on:

|
Dr. Roberta Golinkoff
Our MACTE Symposium welcomes Dr. Roberta Golinkoff, who is a renowned researcher in child development. She received her PhD from Cornell University is the Unidel H. Rodney Sharp Professor of Education, Psychological and Brain Sciences, and Linguistics and Cognitive Science at the University of Delaware and director of the Child's Play, Learning, and Development laboratory.
Awards & Honors
She has held the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship, the James McKeen Cattell sabbatical award, and the American Psychological Association's Distinguished Service Award as well as the Urie Bronfenbrenner Award for Lifetime Contribution to Developmental Psychology in the Service of Science and Society. In 2015, she accepted the James McKeen Cattell Fellow Award from the Association for Psychological Science. Golinkoff was also was named a Distinguished Scientific Lecturer by the American Psychological Association and in 2017, she was awarded the Society for Research in Child Development's Distinguished Scientific Contribution award.
Research & Publications
Her research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Institute of Education Sciences, and the LEGO Foundation. In addition to over 150 journal publications and book chapters, she has authored 16 books and monographs. Passionate about the dissemination of psychological science for improving our schools and families' lives, she and Hirsh-Pasek (her long standing collaborator) also write books for parents and practitioners. How Babies Talk (1999); the award-winning Einstein Never Used Flash Cards (2004) and A Mandate for Playful Learning in Preschool (2009). Her latest book, Becoming Brilliant: What Science Tells Us About Raising Successful Children is with APA Press and reached the New York Times best seller list in 2016.
Current Initiatives
Dr. Golinkoff lectures internationally about language development, playful learning, and spatial development. She co-founded the Ultimate Block Party movement to celebrate the science of learning. The first event (2010) in Central Park in New York City attracted over 50,000 people (www.UltimateBlockParty.org); subsequent Block Parties were held in Baltimore, MD, Toronto, CA, and Norwalk CT. An installation to encourage parent-child interaction called Urban Thinkscape (http://brook.gs/2hULI2b ) was launched in Philadelphia in June 2017. She has appeared on numerous radio and television shows and in print media and never turns down an opportunity to spread the findings of psychological science to the lay public.

Dr. Angela Murray
MACTE is pleased to announce Angela Murray, PhD, as a Symposium keynote speaker. Dr. Murray is Senior Researcher and Coordinator for the American Montessori Society as well as Assistant Research Professor at the University of Kansas. She graduated with a PhD from the University of Kansas is in the area of Psychology and Research in Education with a minor in Cultural Anthropology and was awarded honors for her dissertation, "Public Perceptions of Montessori Education." She is the founding editor of the Journal of Montessori Research and frequently presents on Montessori and other educational issues in national and international conferences.

Brooke Culclasure, Ph.D
Brooke Culclasure, PhD, is the Research Director of Furman University's Richard W. Riley Institute in Greenville, SC.She currently is Principal Investigator of several large-scale education studies, including the Study of Montessori Education in the South Carolina Public Schools. She serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Montessori Research and is a member of the American Montessori Society (AMS) Research Committee. She has had recent presentations at the 2016 AMS Annual Conference in San Diego and the International Montessori Congress in Prague, Czech Republic.

Carolyn Daoust, Ph.D
Carolyn Daoust, PhD, holds AMI 6-12 and AMS 3-6 teaching credentials. Dr. Daoust has worked in Montessori education for 30+ years as a teacher, teacher educator, program coordinator, and consultant, and most recently held an Associate Professor position at St. Mary's College of CA. She is a former AMS Board member and served on their research committee. Winner of the AMS Outstanding Thesis Award in 1996, and Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award in 2004.

Dr. Tracey Sulak
Dr. Tracey Sulak serves as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at Baylor University. She teaches courses in academic interventions and assessment in the teacher education program and coordinates an annual literacy clinic for students with autism and students at-risk for failure. Dr. Sulak also teaches research methods and statistics
for graduate students and serves as a research and teaching mentor in the doctoral program. Research interests include interventions for students with mild disabilities, special education teacher training, inclusive education, Montessori education, and school climate. She is currently a member of the AMS Research Committee.

Jade Caines Lee
Jade Caines Lee is an Assistant Professor of Education at University of New Hampshire. She earned a B.A. at Stanford University, an M.A in teaching secondary English at Brooklyn College, and a Ph.D. in Educational Research, Measurement, and Evaluation at Emory University. She spent almost two years as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, preceded by almost 10 years of K-12 public school teaching experience. She worked as a researcher for several organizations, including the UCLA Center for the Study of Evaluation and the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia in Atlanta, GA.
Professor Lee's research interests include assessment development and validation, intervention
research, educational evaluation, validity theory, and assessment literacy.
