On this 50th Anniversary celebrating the Week of the Young Child, we are given an opportunity to recognize that the child care workforce, comprised primarily of women and black, Indigenous, people of color (BIPOC), is one of San Mateo County’s greatest assets. We acknowledge that child care provides indispensable support to our local economy with high quality child care and early education programs that help ameliorate the effects of poverty, eliminate the school readiness gap borne of societal inequities and leads to positive outcomes for all children.
