ELSD Spotlight: 'In the Moment'


Early Learner South Dakota was a part of putting together an op-ed that was co-authored by the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis and Monument Health. This article featured the importance of early learning. After the public press release was given out, South Dakota Public Broadcasting asked Early Learner South Dakota, Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, and South Dakota Public Broadcasting early learning director to do an interview on ‘In the Moment’ with Lori Walsh to discuss the topic more.

South Dakota was asked to be represented at the first meeting of the Early Childhood Business Advisory Council


South Dakota was one of the 9 states chosen to be a part of the Early Childhood and Business Advisory Council with the Bipartisan Policy Center and the US Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Early Learner SD Director, Kayla Klein was present at the kick off meeting in Washington D.C. in June.

Visiting with Stakeholders East River


Kayla Klein, Early Learner SD, toured the east side of the state to meet many ELSD stakeholders. That visit included time with the Center for the Prevention of Child Maltreatment, which is also leading extraordinary early learning initiatives in the state and also one of the partners, with ELSD, putting together the Children's Week at the Capitol. Kayla also visited with SDPB (more information listed above), toured the Brookings Fishback Center for Early Childhood Education and participated in a group discussion with a group of educators at the Boys and Girls Club of the Sioux Empire along with the Afterschool Network. 'It was a privilege to listen and learn from so many ELSD partners and gain further insight to the struggles being faced.' says Director Kayla Klein

SD Early Childhood Comprehensive Systems Webinar Series 


Starting August 4th, the Center for the Prevention of Child Maltreatment will host a series of panel discussions regarding the needs and issues facing young children and families in South Dakota.
