1.)   Butterfly Pediatrics Monthly Meeting – Tuesday September 24th at 3:15pm

This school year we will again be joined monthly by our Partners at Butterfly Pediatrics as their experts join us virtually to answer your questions and give resources/ideas about behavior, social emotional needs and sensory processing situations in your classrooms. Our first session this year will be Tuesday, September 24th at 3:15pm.

To make the most of our hour with them can you please email me at david.mayer@seattlearch.org  by Tuesday, September 24th at 12:00pm with any behavior, social emotional needs and sensory processing situations you are dealing with that you would like the experts from Butterfly Pediatrics to discuss during the virtual meeting. I will be sending these case studies in advance to the Butterfly team so they can be prepared to give you as much information as possible during our time together. Even if you are not able to join the meeting, you can still submit situations and we will record the conversations and send a recording link. Also, please feel free to also send this information to your Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade teachers as they are now invited to these meetings as well! Thank you!

2.)   Early Learning Article of the Week

Check out this Education Week Article comparing current Early Learning students with those from five years ago. The article highlights how some young students are struggling with fine motor skills, like using scissors and pencils, and social-emotional capabilities, such as following instructions and sharing, teachers report. Strong majorities of preK-3 teachers said these tasks and skills were more, or much more, challenging for children this school year than they were for kids of the same age five years ago, according to the Education Week State of Teaching survey.

3.)   Licensed ONLY: Licensing WAC of the Week –

This week’s WAC of the week is the example Monitoring Visit Checklist (the item’s Licensors will look for on their annual visit). As our programs start to have their annual visits this is a good document to review a bit at a time to make sure that your program is staying in compliance. As you read through the sections please let me know if you have any questions.
