  • Tuesday, July 14, 2020 - Runoff Election Day

Notes from the Chair:
Vote Safely

Early Voting starts Monday June 29 and runs for two weeks with the last day being July 10. Election day is July 14 and there are only two races. Details on when and where to vote are shown later in the newsletter and on our website and Facebook page. If you have not signed up to vote by mail there is still time but you only have until July 3 to request an application(see below). If you plan to vote in person, please remember that we need to practice common-sense safety steps. We must social distance, wear masks or face shields, wash our hands frequently and sanitize. Our election office has developed an excellent plan (see below for details) to keep voters and poll workers from being exposed to the coronavirus. Wearing a mask or face shield should be required, unfortunately, Texas law will not let us enforce that requirement but I am stressing to everyone, please mask up to protect others and yourself.  I also suggest you early vote to reduce the load at our six polling places on election day.

You will need to know who to vote for and a great place to start to learn about candidates is the League of Women Voter’s site

Royce West is running against M J Hegar for the US Senate to have a chance to beat Republican John Cornyn.

The other race is for a chance to run for Railroad Commissioner against Republican James Wright. Chrysta Castaneda is running against Roberto Alonzo. Again, both are excellent and would be a much-needed progressive voice on Texas Railroad Commission which regulates the oil and gas industry.

As of this writing, we have raised the funds for our Vote Blue Billboard on I-10. We still need money for other signage but how fantastic that all of you have made the billboard a reality.

Until we can be together again, please stay safe and please stay engaged. Thank you all for your support of the KCDP.

Kevin Henning
Kendall County Democratic Party Chair
