Saturday Morning Small Group Seminar
9:00 am - 11:30 am
The morning small group seminar is graciously hosted in the home
of Janet and Gil Spielberg in Los Angeles, CA.
Participation in this event is limited to a small group. Pre-registration is required.
This intensive small-group seminar will show new material from Beebe's follow-up study from infancy to young adulthood. Participants will have an intimate opportunity to study videotapes of badges at 4 and 12 months of age, as well as in young adulthood.
2.5 CEU & CME credits are available to Physicians, Psychologists, MFTs, LCSWs, and RNs for attending the morning session in its entirety. Due to space limitations we will be unable to accommodate walk-in's. To reserve your space for this workshop a $175.00 minimum per person donation is required. Saturday Afternoon Presentation
2pm - 6pm at ICP, Los Angeles

The organization of intimate relating is at stake in early mother-infant interactions: how the infant comes to know, and to be known by another's mind, as well as how he comes to know his own mind. This second-by-second process generates the ways in which mothers and infants come to feel sensed, known, and recognized; and the ways in which this process may falter, be repaired, or become derailed. The implications of the organization of intimate relating in infancy will be explored in 3 contexts: (1) analogies and parallels in adult treatment to our findings on the four-month origins of disorganized attachment (2) the prediction of young adult outcomes from forms of relating in infancy (3) new material from a 7-year video feedback consultation to Dr.S's patient, a traumatized woman who does not look.
Extensive video and frame-by frame analyses will illustrate the lecture.

Saturday Evening Reception
Wine, Cheese, Poetry,
and 9/11 Fundraising
at ICP, Los Angeles
(directly after Dr. Beebe's conference at 6:30pm)
This reception is an opportunity to meet Beatrice Beebe and her husband Edward McCrorie in a more informal setting, and to support Beebe's research. Beebe and McCrorie will present a "duet" on her work with the Mothers and Young Children Project who suffered the
loss of their partner/father in the 9/11 tragedy.
Beebe will read selected paragraphs from her book (Beebe et al., 2012), on how the children represented their lost fathers during pretend-play, and McCrorie will read poems from a book in progress, Pretend Ballads, inspired by these paragraphs.McCrorie will also read brief selections from his published translations and poetry books. McCrorie's books will be available for sale.
CEU and CME credit is not available for this event.

Beatrice Beebe, Ph.D. is a Clinical Professor of Medical Psychology (in Psychiatry), College of Physicians & Surgeons, Columbia University, New York State Psychiatric Institute; faculty at the Columbia Psychoanalytic Center, the Institute for the Psychoanalytic Study of Subjectivity, and the N.Y.U. Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis; co-author with Jaffe, Feldstein et al. of Rhythms of Dialogue in Infancy (2001); author with Lachmann of Infant Research and Adult Treatment: Co-Constructing Interactions (2002), author with Knoblauch, Rustin and Sorter of Forms of Intersubjectivity in Infant Research and Adult Treatment (2005); author with Jaffe, Markese, et al. of the The Origins of 12-month attachment: A microanalysis of 4-month mother-infant interact (2010). Currently she directs a primary prevention Project for mothers who were pregnant and widowed on 9/11. The project therapists have published a book, edited by Beebe, B.Cohen, P.Sossin, K.M. & Markese.(Eds.) (2012), that documents their work: Mothers, infants and young children of September 11, 2001: A primary prevention project. (Routledge Press)
Dr. Edward McCrorie is Professor Emeritus of English at Providence College in Rhode Island, and has published verse translations of Homer's Odyssey and Iliad, and Virgil's Aeneid, and four books of his own poetry. His current projects include Washington's Night, a "Story in Verse" about America in 1776, and Wilson's Day, a follow-up epic about Woodrow Wilson, World War 1 and the League of Nations. He has also begun to translate, from the ancient Hebrew, the Prophecy of Jeremiah. Dr. McCrorie is married to Dr. Beatrice Beebe.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this conference, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the details of mother-infant split-second interactions which are
rapid and thus difficult to observe in real time, and recognize differences
between secure and disorganized interactions at 4 months.
2. Use the 4-month mother-infant interaction research on the origins of disorganized
attachment to draw analogies to split-second, out-of-awareness
nonverbal communications between adult patients and therapists.
3. Describe interactions in infancy that predict attachment outcomes in
young adulthood.CONTINUING EDUCATION
PSYCHOLOGISTS: ICP is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. ICP maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
