Scammers Targeting Lake County Residents Pretending to Be Local Government Officials

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and 19th Judicial Circuit have become aware of a scam targeting Lake County residents.

This scam involves con artists calling Lake County residents and introducing themselves as a member of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The scammers utilize an actual name of a Sheriff’s Office employee. The scammer then informs the victim that they missed a jury summons and an arrest warrant, a citation, or citations, have been issued to the victim. The scammer then attempts to instruct the victim how to purchase a “voucher” in order to avoid arrest.

Neither the Sheriff’s Office nor the 19th Judicial Circuit will ever call a resident to request money. Lake County Government will not ask for or accept payment in the form of gift cards, ‘Green Dot’ cards, Venmo, or cryptocurrency.

Most of the times the scammers are operating out of other states or countries. The best course of action is to hang up and if utilizing a cellphone, block the caller’s telephone number from being able to contact you again. You may also file a report with your local law-enforcement agency. If you are ever doubtful of a government official contacting you by phone, you may always hang up and call back utilizing the known telephone number for the government office which contacted you.

Remember, if you did not initiate the telephone conversation:

1. Do Not provide any personal information;

2. Do Not tell anyone when you leave your residence;

3. Document the number calling along with any information about the call;

4. Report the incident to your local law enforcement agency as soon as possible.

Host Homes Needed for Elite Athletes for Upcoming Mundelein Grand Prix

The Mundelein Grand Prix Intelligentsia Cup cycling event is RACING back to Mundelein on July 25! The Intelligentsia Cup is a 10-day race series (July 22-31) in and around Chicagoland. It is the largest road race series in the country that attracts elite athletes from across the nation and around the world!

Currently, they are seeking host homes for some of these elite athletes. Based on feedback from other host families, these elite cyclists are always great guests and often long-term friendships form.

Host housing has been a long-time staple of bicycle racing and the requirements are rather basic, yet the housing assistance is a great help to the athletes.

Host Home Requirements :

- A bed or air bed for each cyclist, a bathroom, and shower

- A kitchen to prepare meals with refrigerator space

- A washer and dryer

- Secure place to store bikes

You are not expected to cook or provide transportation for these athletes, and the cyclists will respect the health guidelines of your home.

Please contact the Intelli Cup’s host housing coordinator, Elle Ullum, at [email protected] if you are interested in this opportunity to meet some interesting and talented cyclists. Also, visit Host Housing to learn more!

Donate Books at Fremont Library

Items you would like to donate for resale or to be used by other libraries or schools in need should be placed in the blue donation bin located in the library parking lot. These donations are then handled by Discover Books, which is an organization that tries to give the items a new home, or recycles them. The items do not end up in landfills. A portion of proceeds from these donations is given back to the library.

Grand Prix Bike Race, Monday, July 25, 2022

INTRODUCING THE MUNDELEIN GRAND PRIX

The Mundelein Grand Prix is a professional and amateur bicycle race as part of the nationally-renowned Intelligentsia Cup race series. Races are held in a "criterium" format, meaning that racers will compete together on a short circuit racecourse in Downtown Mundelein and complete as many laps as possible within the allotted time. Once one race finishes, another begins shortly thereafter. There will be almost nonstop racing from 10AM to 8PM. With tight turns and fast straightaways, races are always a thrilling spectacle! But this day is more than just about bike races: a beer garden, children's games, a community ride, live music, art activities, and more will make the Mundelein Grand Prix an event the whole community can enjoy.  More Information
