The class is set for July 10-12 at the University  of Wisconsin-Stevens Point

This immersive three-day school features a mix of classroom, hands-on and field trip experience.
Course content is geared for both new and experienced compost facility operators, on-farm composters, extension educators, city administrators and zoning officials and others -- anyone who would like to understand more about composting and who desires to improve their compost quality, regulations, marketing and profitability.

Subject-matter experts from across the Midwest will cover topics including:
  • Introduction to the composting process
  • Recipe development and feedstock characteristics
  • Compost quality and measurement
  • Food waste diversion
  • Animal composting and mass mortality
  • Compostable packaging
  • Odor management
  • Hands-on compost pile construction
  • Facility design
  • Economics and marketing of compost
  • Midwest regulations overview and update
  • Two site visits to commercial compost manufacturers
For the second consecutive year, the school will be hosted by the Wisconsin Institute for Sustainable Technology and the Soil and Waste Resources Discipline, units within the College of Natural Resources at UW-Stevens Point.
