Seven Certified as 2024 Earth Care Congregations
Seven congregations in Presbytery of the James have been certified as Earth Care Congregations by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s Presbyterian Hunger Program for 2024. Congratulations to:
- Westminster Church, Charlottesville (since 2015)
- Madison Church, Madison (since 2018)
- Second Church, Richmond (since 2020)
- Bon Air Church, Richmond (since 2021)
- The Presbyterian Church, Fredericksburg (since 2022)
- Ginter Park Church, Richmond (new in 2024)
- Tuckahoe Church, Richmond (new in 2024)
This status speaks to the serious commitment that these congregations are making to care for God’s earth. To become an Earth Care Congregation, congregations incorporate environmental practices and thinking into their worship, education, facilities, and outreach.

Interested in Becoming an Earth Care Congregation? | Presbytery churches are working together to spread awareness of the program with other congregations. They have been holding periodic meetings of current Earth Care Congregations and those interested in the program to share ideas and encourage one another in their earth care journeys. Pictured above are the participants in a meeting March 3 that included Bon Air Church, Second Church (Richmond), Tuckahoe Church, Ginter Park Church, and Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church. All churches are welcome to participate in the group.
Reminder: Camp Fun Day is April 21
Encourage your congregation members to attend Camp Hanover's Fun Day on April 21 after church. This free event showcases all the fun and faith-building that takes place at the camp during summer, after school, and year-round at events your church can host there. See an overview of Camp Hanover in a video shared at the February presbytery meeting. Consider sharing the video one Sunday during your worship service.
Pray for Mission Group in Guatemala This Week | A group from Presbytery of the James and Presbytery of the Peaks are in Guatemala with CEDEPCA USA this week learning about God's love for our siblings there. Lord, we pray that during this experience you help them form relationships and greet each encounter with compassion. Keep the group safe and healthy through their return April 22. What a wonderful opportunity to visit another country and culture in service to you.
