Happy Earth Day | April 22nd
Nature’s gifts to our planet are the species that we know and love, along with the many more that we have yet to discover. Unfortunately, we have upset the balance of nature and the world is facing the greatest rate of extinction since we lost the dinosaurs more than 60 million years ago.

This year the Earth Day Network is asking people to join their Protect our Species campaign. The goals are to:

  • Educate and raise awareness about the accelerating rate of extinction of millions of species and the causes and consequences of this phenomenon.

  • Achieve major policy victories that protect broad groups of species as well as individual species and their habitats.

  • Build and activate a global movement that embraces nature and its values.

  • Encourage individual actions such as adopting plant based diet and stopping pesticide and herbicide use.

For more information on how you can help our species visit   EarthDay.org .

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
Saturday, April 27th
10am - 2pm
Did you know there is an opioid crisis happening in our country right now. Every day over 130 people in the US die after overdosing on opioids, that's over 47,000 people a year.

Opioids are a class of drugs that include the illegal drug heroin, synthetic opioids such as fentanyl, and pain relievers available legally by prescription, such as oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, morphine, and many others.

The DEA wants you to help prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths by properly disposing of your unused, unwanted and expired prescription drugs. That's why they have created the bi-annual National Prescription Take Back Day.

To find participating location near you visit DEATakeBack.com. Treatment information is also available on their website, if you or someone you know is in need.
March's Survey Results
In March's E-newsletter, we asked you how well you know your recyclables. From a list of plastic materials, 80% of you knew that plastic bags are not accepted in your bins/carts.

While plastic bags aren't accepted in your curbside recycling, they are accepted at many big box stores.

Check out these retailers for plastic bag recycling:
  • Kroger
  • Lowe's
  • Meijer
  • Wal-Mart
  • Target
  • Kohl's
