“The environment is where we all meet; where all have a mutual interest; it is the one thing all of us share.” – Lady Bird Johnson
Dear Friends, residents, neighbors:
Today is Earth Day! It is a lovely day to look around Union Vale and celebrate the beauty we have here. Visit Tymor and Godfrey Parks this weekend and marvel at the light, the trees and wide open spaces. We are lucky to have such gems.
We have additional ways to pay homage to our planet over the next couple of weeks, if you are able, by donating and picking up around town.
Jen Rubbo, Union Vale's Climate Smart Community Coordinator (CSC), reviewed the connection between waste and climate change in last week's Town Board meeting. By throwing away loads of garbage, which goes into landfills, we help produce methane gas which has "34 times the warming potential than carbon dioxide has" on our planet. Use recycling and composting more to help reduce garbage and its negative effects. Read the article Jen provided that distills the connection (click on this link):
At our Recycling Center this Saturday, April 24th, Habitat for Humanity will be collecting items for their Re-Store. Use this as a way to de-clutter your house and provide items other families might use (keeps your decent items out of the trash & garbage)! Here is their request for donations:
