Empower The Social Media Thunderclap April 7: #BuyTheLand #SaveFLwater

THUNDERCLAP is a website that allows people to pledge to Tweet or Facebook a message all on the same day- and at the exact same time- in order to achieve the maximum effect. Think of this action as an online flash mob in support of restoring the Everglades and protecting Florida's drinking water.

Join the Thunderclap!

"Lawmakers: Don't let this sweet deal go sour- time's running out on #Everglades restoration #buytheland #saveFLwater http://thndr.it/1BNxjpq"

On April 7th, The Everglades Foundation will share this message for you via Twitter, Facebook and/or Tumblr! (yes, there are privacy rules)

April 7th is Everglades Day as designated by the Florida Legislature in honor of Marjory Stoneman Douglas' birthday. This annual event provides an ideal opportunity to raise awareness and educate decision-makers about the incredible economic and environmental resources that America's Everglades provide, including habitat for 68 threatened and endangered species and drinking water supply for nearly 8 million Floridians.

The Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Reservoir is key to solving our water crisis.

The current level of water flowing through the Everglades ecosystem is not enough. More clean, fresh water needs to flow south if we are to successfully restore our River of Grass and recharge our aquifer.

Right now, w e have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to buy prime land from U.S. Sugar to build a much-needed reservoir that will hold, clean and send water to the southern  Everglades region.  The time to act is now, as this option expires October 12.  The Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Reservoir is key to solving our water crisis.

Please click here to join the "Support the EAA Reservoir Project Coalition," and ask friends and your favorite businesses to do the same. Click here to sign the petition to ask Governor Rick Scott to #BuyTheLand and protect our drinking water for years to come!

SB 918 Advances to Appropriations Cmte; HB 7003 Passed the House.

Help Stop this Bad Bill, Save Florida's Freshwater!

Credit: Paul Marcellini
Legislators have been saying that 2015 is the Year of Water, yet SB 918/ HB 7003   falls short of protecting Florida's freshwater resources!  The bill was was rushed through the House by the Legislature and it is now headed to the Senate Appropriations Committee. We urgently need your help! Ask the members of the Senate Appropriations Committee to reject SB 918 because it perpetuates the problem: discharging polluted water into Lake Okeechobee, the Everglades and its estuaries.

Click here to read more about this bad bill and for contact information on Committee Members! Bill SB 918/HB 7003 does not "modernize" our water policy, despite what some Legislators have said. Rather, SB 918/ HB 7003 is an all-out assault on our freshwater resources!

Please call the Committee Members today and demand a water bill that protects our life's blood: Drinking Water!
