Spring Cleaning at RUCC's Grounds on April 17 |
What: Sprucing up our beautiful grounds
When: Saturday April 17, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm
Please join the RUCC Grounds Committee for a work day, as we start to freshen the grounds for the months ahead. It's exciting to be able to work together on our beautiful property. We'll do some weeding, some planning, some tidying, some trimming, all outdoors in beautiful surroundings.
No green thumbs required. Jobs great and small need attention. We hope you'll come for some or all of the morning. Coffee and donuts await!

There are no words to reflect what is happening in our Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. Brutal attacks on the elderly and vulnerable are increasing. And these are not robberies. Just hate crimes and in broad daylight. The latest report from just one center monitoring AAPI crimes list over 3,700 incidents from March 2020 to February 2021.
Join the United Church of Christ for an expanded edition of Thursdays for the Soul as leaders and members from the UCC Pacific Islander & Asian American Ministries (PAAM) offer prayers, reflections, and song for collective lament, grieving, a call of national repentance, hope for healing and forgiveness. Followed by a panel presentation and discussion calling for action on how UCC congregations and the wider church can help respond to counter the increasing harassment and violence aimed at our AAPI siblings, sisters and brothers.

Honoring Earth Week - Update to the schedule. |
The week of April 18 - 24 will include a series of activities in celebration of Earth Day. We encourage all of you to eat vegetarian all day on Earth Day - April 22. To help us with this effort, we invite you to share your favorite vegetarian recipe. Please send to Dianne Landeros, [email protected] by April 16.
She will compile the recipes and make them available to you on April 19 or sooner.

Reflection of the Week from the Racial Justice Team |
In his $2 trillion plan to improve America's infrastructure, President Biden is promising to address the racism ingrained in historical transportation and urban planning. Biden's plan includes $20 billion for a program that would "reconnect neighborhoods cut off by historic investments," according to the White House. It also looks to target "40 percent of the benefits of climate and clean infrastructure investments to disadvantaged communities."
Planners of the interstate highway system, which began to take shape after the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956, routed some highways directly, and sometimes purposefully, through Black and brown communities. In some instances, the government took homes by eminent domain.
It left a deep psychological scar on neighborhoods that lost homes, churches and schools, says Deborah Archer, a professor at the New York University School of Law and national board president of the American Civil Liberties Union. Archer recently wrote for the Iowa Law Review about how transportation policy affected the development of Black communities.
