Preliminary Conference Agenda
ANCA staff, industry experts and regional small business and clean energy stakeholders will lead conversations around challenges and opportunities that impact our rural region, including:
Day 1 | Half day of field trips
- Tour of Brookfield Renewable’s Franklin Falls hydropower facility on an NY Bus Sales Electric School Bus
- Walking tour of small businesses in downtown Saranac Lake
- Welcome Reception at Hotel Saranac
Day 2 | Full day of conference sessions

- Panels focused on: rural resilience and climate solutions; business success in rural landscapes; barriers faced by Regional Clean Energy Hubs; renewable energy in agricultural and wild lands; North Country workforce development, and strategies for engaging employees

Celebrating the North Country Clean Energy Hub on Earth Day
Read about the accomplishments the North Country Clean Energy Hub has made by helping residents across the 7 North Country counties work towards safer, more comfortable homes by implementing energy efficiency solutions and assisting residents in applying for energy saving programs. The Hub is a team of community-based, trusted organizations from the North Country, funded by NYSERDA, who offer no-cost advising to residents and businesses.
In celebration of Earth Day, Erin Griffin (North Country Clean Energy Hub Director), details the ways you can implement energy efficiency solutions in your homes and communities!

Funding for Farmers: Energy Efficiency Opportunities
The North Country Clean Energy Hub has organized a webinar for farmers to learn about available funding opportunities! Presenters include Gabriel Gurley (Tompkins County CCE, AG Energy NY Program Manager) and Jon Ignatowski (ANCA Food Systems Business Manager).

Renew America's Nonprofit Grant
Do you know a New York State nonprofit that needs building upgrades? Don't miss out on the opportunity to upgrade the nonprofit building with the help of the Renew America’s Nonprofits (RAN) grant. This grant is open to all New York State nonprofits that own their building and could receive up to $200,000 towards energy-saving upgrades.
With limited time to apply, we encourage you to share with your local North Country nonprofits to start the application process today!
Eligible projects for funding include, but are not limited to:
- Building envelope improvements
- Efficiency upgrades to existing HVAC systems
- Clean heating and cooling systems
- Energy efficient lighting
- Energy efficient appliances and equipment
- Windows and doors
- Roof repair or replacement
- Electrical upgrades

Build Your Business Skills
Two skills-building workshops with ANCA and the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce have been rescheduled and now offer a virtual option for those who cannot attend in person.
Our Digital Marketing and Empowerment Series will help participants build marketing and social media skills as well as the basics of building a website and utilizing analytics.

Black Birders Event in Lake Placid
Celebrate Black Birders Week on May 31 at John Brown Farm in Lake Placid, NY! As part of Northern New York Audubon’s Great Adirondack Bird Celebration, this special day of birding will feature guest speakers, guided bird walks, activities for families, and more.
This event is presented by the Adirondack Diversity Initiative, John Brown Lives! Friends of Freedom, and NNY Audubon.

ADI's Welcoming & Belonging Micro-credential is designed to be manageable and useful for local businesses and organizations interested in strengthening relationships with staff and customers, while boosting business through inclusive best practices.

Federal Funding Concerns
In case you missed it, ANCA's work with USDA's Climate Smart Commodities program has been covered by a few regional news publications that have been investigating the impacts of federal funding freezes on North Country communities. Learn about our grant-funded agroforestry project with local farms (including North Country Creamery, pictured) and how the potential loss of funding will impact their businesses in New York Focus, the Adirondack Explorer, and the Adirondack Daily Enterprise.

Video: Uniting Under Compost
Congrats to the Adirondack Explorer for recognition from the New York Press Association for their coverage of news, diversity issues, and climate solutions.
Among the awards is a second-place "Climate Voices" video story produced by Chloe Bennett. The video features Jennifer Perry — ANCA's Organics Recycling Coordinator and co-founder of Compost for Good — and her mission to engage community members around food waste reduction and composting!

Steady Expansion of Composting
Another story in the Adirondack Explorer spotlights the growth of community-scale composting efforts across the region — due in large part to the work of Compost for Good.
ANCA is thrilled to support this initiative as the economic and environmental benefits are truly impactful in terms of reducing food waste, enriching soils, and providing small business opportunities.

Calling all K-12 New York school districts! The New York State Association for Reduction, Reuse and Recycling (NYSAR3) Green Schools Grant Program is accepting applications for projects including food waste reduction and composting efforts. Join the High Peaks Farmers' Market at Hotel Saranac as they host a Mother's Day Celebration on May 10th, from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. There will be an open yoga class (no registration required), mimosa bar, and farmers' market with local vendors.
