Triangle Launch!

EarthShare NC's new Earth Day program is launching April 2015. Demonstrate corporate commitment to the environment, reward and engage your staff with fun team building, do something good for your community to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Earth Day, network with businesses... there are SO many reasons to be part of the first annual EarthShare NC's Corporate Earth Day Events program in the Triangle--a fun, meaningful way to support nonprofit organizations that are working every day to care for our air, land water and wildlife. Companies can take part in any or all activities including:

  • Corporate Challenge and After Party: We will match employee teams with hands-on projects with local conservation nonprofits for the afternoon of April 16. Then we are throwing a party for participating companies and nonprofits at Social Gameroom and Tap!
  • Leadership Breakfast, Wednesday, April 22nd from 8-9:30 AM: Be our guest at the 21c Museum Hotel in Durham (opening April 2015!) for a unique event featuring leaders in corporate sustainability, updates from environmental leaders, Corporate Challenge awards, and networking.

See our Earth Day 2015 page for details and benefits.

NCSEA Census Confirms State's $4.8B Clean Energy Industry Continues to Lead

The NC Sustainable Energy Association (NCSEA) recently announced results of its 7th annual Clean Energy Industry Census, quantifying the clean energy industry's economic impact on North Carolina. NCSEA created the Census to help measure the impact of North Carolina's clean energy policies and identify where policies are or are not achieving the results policymakers, economic developers, and industry envisioned. The 2014 report reaffirms the role of NC's flourishing clean energy industry in driving the state's economy, with an annual growth of approximately 25% since 2012, and $4.8 billion in gross revenues in 2014-- up $1.2 billion from 2013. According to the report, clean energy projects have reached all corners of North Carolina and bring with them jobs and investment in local communities. Click here to read the full report.

More TRACK Trails Mean More Happy and Healthy Children

Kids in Parks (KIP), a signature program of the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, has been awarded $921,000 from the BCBSNC Foundation to continue its work helping kids and families reconnect with nature through TRACK Trails. Over the next three years, the grant will be used to expand the network of trail adventures throughout North Carolina, with a goal of designating at least one trail in every county. BlueCross BlueShield is an EarthShare NC workplace giving partner. We appreciate their support of ESNC nonprofits through employee gifts and other partnerships.

SUSTAINABILITY CORNER
Winter Tips:

Windows waste plenty of energy and money. Here are simple things you can do to make your existing windows save energy and keep your home a little cozier:

  • Install weatherstripping on drafty doors and windows. Storm doors and windows should have weatherstripping on all movable joints.

  • Use stretch-seal, heat-shrink plastic sheeting kits for windows as an inexpensive and easy way to seal warped or single-glazed windows.

  • Use window quilts or shutters over your windows to keep the cold out in the winter and the heat out in the summer. An uninsulated drape can cut window heat loss by one-third. An insulated drape can reduce it by half.

  • Remove, clean, and store window air conditioners. If this isn't possible, wrap the unit with a thick layer of fiberglass insulation and seal it with plastic sheeting and duct tape to keep out moisture.

  • your gift goes a long way!

employee engagement, fun, relationships, promotion, awards, prizes, service, food, cool venues--
    all for a
    GREAT cause.
