East Bay Gives is This Thursday, May 4!

East Bay Gives is almost here! The 24-hour-online giving blitz celebrating the generosity of the Bay Area will kick off May 4 at 12 a.m.

Supporting us for East Bay Gives is simple and safe: visit our East Bay Gives Page on your laptop, desktop, or mobile device, and make your donation. We are trying to win a $3,000 cash prize by winning the most donors during the 6-7 p.m. hour, so if you can put it on your calendar to donate during that hour, that would be amazing! But we so appreciate all donations throughout the day! You can also spread the word on social media using #EastBayGives. Thank you for your generosity, as we would not be where we are today without the generous spirit of our supporters!!

SFH Gardens Two Year Anniversary, Earth Day, and Plant Sale - Saturday, May 6!
Two Year Anniversary!
April marks two years since we broke ground on our Sunflower Hill Gardens! We have made tremendous progress since we brought out the tractors and began to create our vision for a garden for special needs out of the one-acre field of weeds. Our vision has become a reality and we now have our beautiful Sunflower Hill Gardens and are running programs for special needs individuals three days a week! We are so grateful to all of the wonderful volunteer help and special ranchers that we have had in the garden.

A Fun Earth Day and Family Workday!
Thank you to all who spent Earth Day helping us at our Spring Planting Family Workday on April 22! Everyone worked very hard together while having lots of fun! We planted several rows of our spring plants, including tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, cucumbers and more, as well as prepared several new beds for planting more plants! It was also wonderful to see several new faces at our event. We hope to see each of you again soon!

And a special thank you to Mayor of Livermore John Marchand for stopping by our garden to see us at work. We are very grateful to have this opportunity to use one acre of the city's Hagemann Ranch for our Sunflower Hill Gardens.

See our flickr album for photos of the event.

Our next Family Workday Event will be Saturday, June 3rd. You can sign up on  Eventbrite or email us at  gardens@sunflowerhill.org. You are also welcome to come work during our regular volunteer hours every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday
from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Email us if you have any questions regarding this.

CAFF Farm to School Conference - A Garden Designed for Special Needs
Lynn Monica had the opportunity to share the story about Sunflower Gardens at the  Community Alliance for Family Farmers  (CAFF)  Farm to School Conference in Modesto California . This was a wonderful conference of sharing, networking, and learning about programs that are working to educate children in school about growing produce and improving the quality of food that our children are eating at school. SFH Gardens is a unique " Garden Designed for Special Needs ", which many were interested in learning about!
