Mistletoe Acres Tree Farm's Dark Market Comes to Life
This October, the Mistletoe Acres Tree Farm put together their first ever Dark Market! The Halloween event welcomed over 50 artisans and crafters, and any and all patrons free of charge. With an amazing lineup of talented vendors, the day's festivities included live music, tarot, yoga, an array of foods and desserts, a bar, live chainsaw art, pumpkin picking, pictures with Krampus, a paranormal investigation, ghost hunters, and even goats in costume.
Mistletoe Acres is a family owned and operated Christmas tree farm in East Bridgewater. This year they decided to change things up and start the holiday season early with a Halloween celebration to precede the Christmas season. In addition to Mistletoe Acres' many vendors, the event had a great community turnout which brought the market to life. Thank you to everyone who came out and enjoyed the Dark Market for supporting local businesses, bringing the community together, and making Mistletoe Acres Tree Farm's first ever Halloween celebration special!

Historical Tidbit: Nutter Farm Conservation Land | |
Plymouth St, just below the common
The text of the plaque:
"This path and the land to which it leads are given in honor of Attorney Edmund Winslow Nutter and his wife Dorothy Hilmer Nutter by their children Susan Keene Nutter and Deborah Winslow Nutter, their grandchildren Carolyn Hilmer Schickel and Todd Winslow Miner, and their families.
The Alden / Nutter families lived on and farmed this land for generations. Steadfastly and selflessly dedicated to the well-being of the town and its citizens, they served on the boards of its banks, its schools, the First Parish Unitarian Church, and the cemetery. This land is given in the hope that future generations of East Bridgewater cherish the land as much as they have.

Climate Can Do:
3 Tips for a Sustainable Halloween
With spooky season underway, it is important to remember how our choices impact the environment around us. According to Duke University, a 2019 study found that discarded Halloween costumes alone generated 2,000 tons of plastic waste each year. Luckily there are many quick and easy tricks to help you cut down your eco-footprint.
Recycle Costumes and Decor
When it comes to Halloween, some things never go out of style. From spiders to skeletons to witch cauldrons -- keep your "old" decor to use again next year and save time, money, and the planet!
You might consider shopping at thrift and consignment shops or try something new and DIY your own costume! The cape from one year's vampire costume might be the finishing touch for next year's superhero. A pillow case can be easily decorated at home and makes a great trick-or-treat bag. Old stockings with runs and pulls can be transformed into spider-webbing. And cardboard boxes can be cut and painted to look like tombstones in your front yard display!
Maximize Pumpkin Usage
When pumpkins are tossed in the trash and begin to breakdown, they create methane, a powerful greenhouse gas. To help prevent this, try to use every part of your pumpkin this Halloween!
Pumpkin seeds, flesh, and rind can be used in a ton of delicious recipes such as pumpkin bread, pudding, pie, and more. For inspiration, you can look online or visit Delish.
Once the season's over, compost your pumpkin, mixing it oxygen while it breaks down decreases methane emissions and improves your garden's nutrient-rich soil.
Shop Sustainably
Shopping locally is also an easy way to limit waste. Support local farmers this season and buy locally-grown pumpkins; and shop local or fair trade chocolatiers.

East Bridgewater Police Department Receives State Grant
to Improve Road Safety
Chief Michael Jenkins is pleased to announce that the East Bridgewater Police Department has been awarded $29,998.80 in state grant funding to improve road safety.
The Healey-Driscoll Administration awarded over $12.4 million in funding through the Municipal Road Safety, State Agency Traffic Safety, and Underserved Communities Traffic Safety Grant Programs.
The East Bridgewater Police Department received funding through the Municipal Road Safety Grant Program. This funding will support road safety initiatives, including traffic safety enforcement, bicyclist and pedestrian safety, non-enforcement activities such as training or community events, and the purchase of traffic safety equipment or other community safety items, like bike helmets.
The EBPD plans to address specific issues such as speed enforcement, impaired driving (driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs), and distracted driving, while also promoting the Click It or Ticket campaign.
“On behalf of the East Bridgewater Police Department, I would like to express my gratitude for this state grant funding from the Healey-Driscoll Administration,” said Chief Jenkins. “Our priority is to keep the roads safe for our community members, and with this generous funding, we can make that happen.”

Our Furry Friends
“Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day.
It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives and even how much closer we become with each other because of them.” ~ John Grogan
“Dogs are the leaders of the planet. If you see two life forms, one of them's making a poop, the other one's carrying it for him, who would you assume is in charge.”
~ Jerry Seinfeld
“ Pets devour the loneliness. They give us purpose, responsibility, a reason for getting up in the morning, and a reason to look to the future. They ground us, help us escape the grief, make us laugh, and take full advantage of our weakness by exploiting our furniture, our beds, and our refrigerator. We wouldn't have it any other way.”
~ Nick Trout, Tell Me Where It Hurts: A Day of Humor, Healing and Hope in My Life As an Animal Surgeon
“I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me they are the role model for being alive.” ~ Gilda Radner
