East Bridgewater Food Pantry Thanks
Local Girl Scout Troop
The 2nd graders of Girl Scout Troop 77315 put together Thanksgiving baking bags for the East Bridgewater Food Pantry Thanksgiving distribution. The initiative aims to provide families in need with the ingredients necessary for festive baking during the Thanksgiving season.
“Thank you to the 2nd graders of Girl Scout Troop 77315! They made some wonderful Thanksgiving baking bags for our pantry’s Thanksgiving distribution. Our small East Bridgewater community has the biggest hearts. Thank you for supporting your neighbors,” said Dawn Currier, co-director of the pantry, highlighting the impact of the troop’s efforts.
This act of kindness not only supports local families but also teaches young scouts the importance of giving back to their community. The baking bags will be distributed to families in need, with the hope that everyone can enjoy the spirit of the season.

Historical Tidbit:
Veteran's Day

Veterans Day originated as “Armistice Day” on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I.
Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans—living or dead—but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.
Veterans Day occurs on November 11 every year in the United States. In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower officially changed the name of the holiday from Armistice Day to Veteran's Day.
Great Britain, France, Australia and Canada also commemorate the veterans of World War I and World War II on or near November 11th: Canada has Remembrance Day, while Britain has Remembrance Sunday (the second Sunday of November).
In Europe, Great Britain and the Commonwealth countries it is common to observe two minutes of silence at 11 a.m. every November 11.

Climate Can Do:
Drinking Water Without Nano-plastics
Plastic water bottles are filled with tiny bits of plastic called nano-plastics. These are bits of plastic that have broken down so small we cannot see them. But they are there, according to studies by Consumer Reports, Columbia University, University of Missouri, and many others.
The best way to avoid drinking nano-plastics is to use a metal or glass reusable bottle and fill it with filtered tap water.
Reusable water bottles keep you healthy and decrease one major source of nano-plastics in our environment: the disposable water bottle.

East Bridgewater Police Department Receives Certification
On October 30, the East Bridgewater Police Department was awarded certification from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC), marking its commitment to high law enforcement standards. Valid until 2027, this certification requires the department to meet rigorous standards in areas like evidence preservation, community involvement, and public information.
Chief Michael Jenkins praised the team’s dedication. “This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work and dedication of all department members, and I couldn’t be prouder of their efforts. I am confident that this is the first step in a thorough process leading to accreditation.”

Sew Much Love
Sew Much Love is a group of quilters at Union Congregational Church here in East Bridgewater who produce beautifully and functionally made quilts. These quilts are given to Penelope's Place in Brockton, Bolton Place in Brockton, and the Conway House in Middleboro; all women's shelters. Within the group is a rich and long history of simple quilting and altruism that began in the early 80s. Since its founding, Sew Much Love has grown, slowly but surely, and today is consists of 7 members who sew that averages 10 quilts a month. Members are quick to say it is leisurely, and convent. That there is no pressure to produce, only the joy of sewing together to create something beautiful and meaningful.
In speaking with a couple of the members of Sew Much Love, I was given more insight to their day-to-day work, including their sewing methods and materials, meetings, and purpose. Firstly, the group consists of a wide range of skill levels, from those with basic sewing knowledge to some very skilled quilters. The women of the group are very helpful to one another. They share useful tricks and tips of the trade, and over time those who joined the group with little knowledge grow proficient. Most of the group's sewing is actually done individually, at home and when the group assembles each quilt at Union Congregational Church. It is there they utilize the large tables for laying out and pinning the sections of their quilts together. Union Congregational Church also provides a small fund to buy the batting to fill each quilt, and all of the other material is donated.

These quilts are made to hold a lot of warmth and give a lot of love for the women and children in the care of the shelters. They are simple, functional, and weighty. And although the recipients of the quilts remain anonymous under the protection of the shelters, Sew Much Love knows just how important and impactful their quilts are for those who need them. The women receive this warm, handmade, beautiful gift while they are going through a very difficult time, connecting them to generations of women who have struggled with abusive relationships and are cared for as they recover by the love they receive from other women.
Now, from September to May, the group continues the legacy of the generations of quilters who came before them, meeting at 105 Pleasant St, EB on Wednesday mornings at 10a for about an hour. Sew Much Love is open to new members of all skill levels, if you are interested in joining or would like to learn more, please contact Union Congregational Church at 508-378-2874.
Thank you so much to the members of Sew Much Love for bringing light to their service mission and for all your hard work and dedication to supporting a community in need.

Two East Bridgewater Police Officers Recognized for Life-Saving Actions
On October 24th, Sergeant Dennis Andre and Officer Matthew Monteiro of the East Bridgewater Police Department were honored by Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2125 for their life-saving medical aid during the line of duty. In April 2024, upon a 911 call and dispatch, the officers arrived at the scene and revived unconscious, unresponsive retired EBPD Sergeant Larry Davidson by performing CPR and administering a shock via a defibrillator. As Davidson regained his breath, paramedics arrived and transported him to the hospital.
For their immense bravery and quick action, Sgt. Andre and Officer Monteiro were presented with Lifesaving Awards by Chief Jenkins, Deputy Chief Michael McLaughlin, Select Board Members David Sheedy, Carole Julius, and Peter Spagone Jr, as well as by Post Commander John Sauvageau on behalf of VFW National Commander-in-Chief Alfred "Al" Lipphardt. Thank you so much to Sgt. Andre and Officer Monteiro, for your courage and adept work, and thank you to the EBPD for your commitment to keeping our community safe!
