.Historical Tidbit: First Woman Licensed Master Electrician in Massachusetts ~ an EB story. | |
The story began when she was 16 when Deanna was hired by Clyde Meserve to help out around his shop. Deanna soon found that she had a talent for all things electric and built a transformer for the high school science fair.
While taking classes at Bridgewater State for teaching, she continued her part-time job as an electrician's assistant with Meserve until someone commented that it wasn't "dignified" work for a lady. So she looked into what it would take to become a licensed electrician.
Taking a break from her studies at Bridgewater, Deanna completed her 6,000 hours of apprenticeship, an ICS course in electricity and went on to study at Franklin Institute in Boston.
In 1962, Clyde Meserve hired Massachusetts first licensed woman master electrician.
21 year old Deanna Dunlevy of 17 West Union St took three examinations, two written and one oral, and within days was awarded her journeyman and master electrician's license.
Information & Image provided by Bruce Meserve and an ICS magazine published in 1962.

Economic Development Survey
In a new and exciting initiative, East Bridgewater has partnered with Old Colony Planning Council to provide the Town with business assistance services that will help drive business growth and strengthen its local economy. This funding has enabled the Town to contract with OCPC, who is collaborating with the East Bridgewater Business Association (EBBA), to enhance their capacity for local business development and provide specific services that will bridge businesses and consumers, enrich the community, support new development opportunities and better position them for economic growth.
To achieve economic growth, a survey has been developed for both businesses and consumers input to guide the process. In addition to the survey, OCPC will be creating a Business Resource Guide, a Priority Development Site Inventory, and working with the town to develop marketing materials and a business page on the town’s website. The new tools and the insights gathered from this project will help East Bridgewater align its economic development strategies with the community’s needs, guiding actions that support a more prosperous business environment throughout the Town.

Compassion
"If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion." ~ Dalai Lama
"Our uniqueness, our individuality, and our life experience molds us into fascinating beings. I hope we can embrace that. I pray we may all challenge ourselves to delve into the deepest resources of our hearts to cultivate an atmosphere of understanding, acceptance, tolerance, and compassion. We are all in this life together."
~ Linda Thompson
"In my view, the best of humanity is in our exercise of empathy and compassion. It's when we challenge ourselves to walk in the shoes of someone whose pain or plight might seem so different than yours that it's almost incomprehensible." ~Sarah McBride
"In Asian languages, the word for 'mind' and the word for 'heart' are same. So if you're not hearing mindfulness in some deep way as heartfulness, you're not really understanding it. Compassion and kindness towards oneself are intrinsically woven into it. You could think of mindfulness as wise and affectionate attention."
~ Jon Kabat-Zinn

Compassion for ourselves, compassion for others...
