We hope that you enjoyed our August meeting, where we tried a new presentation format called “Quick Fire Presentations”. We invited members of the community to do a short (about five minutes long) presentation on an astronomy-related subject of their choice. This proved to be interesting, as we heard from presenters on the effects of light pollution on astronomy and on the insect population, a discussion of numerous, little-known, astronomy-related facts, and how amateur astronomers obtained and used their telescopes in the pre-digital days. (Spoiler; they built them!)
Please join us for our September 18 meeting at 7:00 PM at the East Brunswick Public Library. We will have a fascinating presentation by Sharife Gacel, who describes herself as an “analog astronaut”. Ms. Gacel will tell us what it’s like to live in isolation with six strangers on the side of the world’s most active volcano, as they simulate as closely as possible the experience of living on the moon. You’ll learn how they all pushed their limits to accomplish their goals, and discover what was learned in the process! You won’t want to miss this!
See you there!
