Welcome, Taylor Malpass to East Jordan DDA!

We are pleased to announce that Taylor Malpass will be joining the Northern Lakes Economic Alliance (NLEA) team serving as the East Jordan Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Coordinator. In that role, she will work closely with the City of East Jordan and DDA Board of Directors to implement the many exciting projects and initiatives in the DDA annual work plan. Taylor will begin her duties on January 6, 2020.

“It’s great partnering with the Northern Lakes Economic Alliance for this service. We are excited to welcome Taylor to East Jordan and the DDA,” said Tom Cannon, East Jordan City Manager. “We were very impressed during the interview process. The NLEA received several good applications; however, Taylor’s experience, personality, and commitment to our community really stood out.”
Infrastructure problems got you down?

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) recently announced they are accepting applications for new projects utilizing the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) under the Infrastructure and Resiliency program. They are offering grant dollars to local units of governments looking to make updates and necessary improvements to existing public infrastructure systems.

There are stipulations and requirements to apply for this competitive round of funding. Using the funds to extend utilities for future growth will not be eligible. Recipients of the 2016 and 2017 ICE grants or the 2018 Frozen Water Grant are also ineligible. The community must also be located within a recognized Low to Moderate Community project area that will benefit the entire community.

The Northern Michigan Annual Hiring Event will be back again for the third year, scheduled for April 4, 2020 from 10:00am - 3:00pm again at the Ellison Place in Gaylord, MI. Early Bird registration is available until January 31, 2020, for $325. Regular registration after January 31, 2020, will be $375. NLEA presents economic development “how to” to LCC class of 2019-20

The current group of Leadership Charlevoix County (LCC) participants got an in-depth look into the role of economic development in their communities at Boyne City, City Hall last Thursday, December 5, 2019.

Northern Lakes Economic Alliance (NLEA) kicked off the morning session with background on the organization’s services and project examples from recent years. In the afternoon, the class toured Boyne companies to get an inside look at how business is conducted in northern Michigan, and how economic development impacts the area.
