City of East Providence establishes tougher

graffiti ordinance

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – The City of East Providence Administration is taking a proactive stance against defacement and graffiti by amending the City’s ordinance with stronger language and fines to combat vandalism in the city. The amended ordinance was approved by the East Providence City Council on May 16, 2023.

Vandalism has been a growing concern in our community, defacing public and private properties, causing economic costs, and impacting the overall aesthetic appeal of our city.

In April, the City announced its establishment of the Graffiti Eradication Task Force to combat graffiti vandalism and encourage residents to report incidents for swift removal and investigation.

Thank you, cleanup volunteers!

While the Earth Day cleanup at Willett Pond was delayed a couple of times due to weather, they finally held the cleanup. Loved how the kids are learning about protecting wildlife while picking up litter.

Visit this beautiful new monument honoring Luso American Veterans

There's a new memorial in Rhode Island Veteran's Memorial Cemetery honoring Portuguese and Luso-American veterans.

Dozens attended a ceremony this month as the monument was unveiled.

The monument features a Portuguese cross, part of the country's flag, and includes the emblem of each U.S. military branch.

Rocks leading up the monument also represent old cobblestones in the European country. There are also flowers along the path that grow in Portugal. The idea was in the works for a few years. There are similar memorials for other nationalities in the cemetery.
