East Region Strategy

Swim England East Region is pleased to announce the publication of our exciting new strategy.

This document represents a significant step forward for aquatics across our region, and we are proud of the vision it outlines.

Our new strategy has been developed to be fully aligned with Swim England's One strategy, including their values and goals. This ensures that our efforts in the East Region directly contribute to the national goals and fostering a united approach to aquatics for everyone.

We believe this strategy will provide a robust framework to grow and enhance lifelong aquatic opportunities in the region, from grassroots participation to elite performance, and to ensure a positive and inclusive experience for all involved.

Should you have any questions or comments regarding our new strategy, please do not hesitate to contact the Regional Chair, Stewart Murray, chairman@eastswimming.org. Your feedback is invaluable as we embark on this exciting new chapter.

The day will run between 10 – 4pm with inputs from SE Safeguarding, the National Welfare Officers, Governance, Active Sports Partnerships and more!

Lunch is included and it is free to attend! Spaces are limited to 2 per club, if you or your chair cannot attend you are welcome to send 2 other representatives from your club committee.

The day will focus on how chairs and welfare officers can effectively work together whilst still maintaining confidentiality and cover topics such as how to deal with outcomes following a SE Safeguarding investigation, the behaviour policy, culture change, how Active Sports Partnerships can help your club and a Q&A with a panel of experts.

It will be an excellent opportunity to network, feedback to the region, put faces to names and pick up some ideas to implement at your clubs to allow them to flourish and make your job easier!

East Region Welfare

Welfare Officer's toolkit

Swim England have published a new Welfare Officer's toolkit that’s been created to support you in your role.

The webpages are packed with practical advice, templates, and key information to help you feel confident and well-equipped when it comes to welfare and safeguarding.

Whether you're new to the role, or have been doing it for a while, we hope you’ll find it useful.

Active Sports Partnerships

The Sport Welfare Officer Network (SWO network) within the Active Sport Partnerships has been created to support National Governing Bodies (NGBs) and their local clubs to promote good practice and safer sport for all. The network is funded by Sport England through National Lottery funding.

The SWOs are working with key partners to develop a local approach to assisting and supporting club welfare officers, to create safer club environments and improved experiences for children, young people and adults.

The Sport Welfare Officers will help create safer sport for all by:

  • Providing additional, local support for club welfare officers
  • Signposting clubs to the right advice and guidance
  • Working with club welfare officers to create a safer culture within their organisation
  • Facilitating local training opportunities and events
  • Creating networks so that volunteers and staff feel better connected and informed
  • Recognising, sharing and developing best practice
  • Helping to raise awareness of safeguarding and welfare for young people and adults at local events

The Sport Welfare Officers do not replace your club, county or regional welfare officer and Safeguarding & Welfare concerns should still be dealt with as per Wavepower and advice sought from County, Region or SE Safeguarding. They do offer local support and excellent training opportunities that are free!

If you feel your club would benefit from their involvement please email eastwelfare@swimming,org or find your local Active Sport Partnerships Sport Welfare Officer here
