A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Maine East Families,
Our school year is off to a great start! We love engaging with your students and watching them grow in the classroom and through their participation in activities and athletics.
Today marks the start of Hispanic Heritage Month. The Maine East community is proud to celebrate the history, culture and accomplishments of our Hispanic/Latinx students, families and staff.
This month also includes special observance for our Jewish students, families and staff. We wish you peace, reflection and family connection as you celebrate Rosh Hashanah beginning at sundown tonight and Yom Kippur beginning on the 24th.
Parent Advisory Meeting - Please Join Us!
Please save the date for an exciting event coming up on Monday evening, September 25th at 6:00 p.m.: Our 1st Multilingual Parent Advisory Council Meeting. ALL parents/caregivers are welcome to attend. This meeting will be an informational session about the role of our Parent Advisory Council and the meaningful work this group can engage in. The goal of the Multilingual Parent Advisory Council (M-PAC) is to advocate programs that serve multilingual learners, to help make decisions to ensure the school meets the academic, linguistic, and cultural needs of students, and to actively participate in parent leadership workshops that advance multiliteracy. We would greatly appreciate your support by attending this meeting and learning about how you can get involved!
Please review with your student: Dangers of the “One Chip Challenge”
Unfortunately, a popular social media challenge has proven to be very dangerous for teens. This trend is called the One Chip Challenge and involves consuming a spicy tortilla chip containing capsaicin. Teens engaging in this challenge have experienced serious medical complications. Read here for more information. Thank you for talking to your student about the dangers involved in this, and other social media challenges.
