This past weekend 12 Family & Consumer Sciences students, along with their advisers traveled to Springfield to attend the annual Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) State Conference to compete in a variety of events.
Margaret Tellez received a Gold Medal for her participation in the Pastry Arts: Frosted Cakes event. Margaret demonstrated her cake decorating skills by completing a variety of classical decorations using various tips; along with designing and producing an interesting, attractive frosted cake with a Disney - 101 Dalmatians theme.
Ava Fehrmann received a Silver Medal for her participation in the Fashion Apparel Display event. Ava demonstrated her skills in planning a visual display for apparel given space requirements; and for her ability to present fashion items for sale in a creative and aesthetic manner. Ava chose to display a Coachella Concert theme for her display.
The Children’s Literature Presentation, is an individual or team (2 people) event, that recognizes participants who demonstrate currently acceptable and creative early childhood techniques while presenting a piece of children’s literature to an imaginary group of three to five year old children. Participants are also recognized for their ability to prepare and execute an organized lesson plan using the required lesson plan format. Partners Jessalyn Coppe & Lucio Roa received a Gold Medal for their Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes story presentation. Partners Lorena Carbello and Vidhi Soni received a Silver Medal for their The Giving Tree story presentation. Lily Majewski received a Gold Medal for her Boo Boo Bird story, and Jheniya Reed received a Gold Medal for her If You Give a Mouse a Cookie story presentation.
Lauren Iype, Ishaben Patel, Ananya Purohit, and Dhyana Purohit all received Gold Medals for their participation the Personal Child Care Provider event by being able to demonstrate knowledge of information and procedures required to give quality individual care to young children. Participants in this event are also recognized for their ability to demonstrate knowledge of safety precautions and emergency care; creativity and knowledge in planning age appropriate activities; and creativity and knowledge of planning nutritional food selections for young children. *Each Category recognizes one Most Outstanding participant as receiving the highest rating from the judges and Lauren Iype received this honor for her event.
