JANUARY 2024 - ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT

Karena Gau

Karena’s academic resume is extraordinary; the beautiful collage of ‘A’s in college level courses is just one of many pieces of evidence of Karena’s brilliance. Karena’s counselor shared that, “Karena is one of the strongest students of her graduating class, and arguably one of the strongest of my tenure at Maine East. She has consistently taken the most rigorous courses we offer (in each academic department), and often taken these courses at least a year ahead of most other students (e.g.: AP Chem as a sophomore)." In addition to all of her school commitments, she engages in Girls Who Code and a variety of cyber-security hack-a-thons.  In a recent competition, Karena won the highest distinction:  a scholarship to take a cyber-security certification exam.

Please Take the District 207 Transportation Survey

District 207 is looking into the potential of providing shuttles from designated locations to major PACE bus stops and/or busing directly to schools. We are asking ALL parents to take our 5-minute survey that will help us identify the needs of families. Even if you are not utilizing the bus, please complete the survey.

If you have not yet taken this survey, please take it today. The deadline to complete the survey is Sunday, January 21.

While there is no guarantee of additional services being provided, this survey will inform future decisions about transportation in District 207.

ATHLETICS

Special congratulations go out to our Boys Varsity Basketball team as they finished in 3rd place in the annual Maine East Boys Varsity Basketball Holiday Tournament last week. Our Boys went 3-1 in the tournament with victories over Argo, Grayslake North and Providence Catholic. Their only loss in the tournament was to Vernon Hills, who were the eventual tournament champions. Tristan Walton and JJ Alphonse were selected as part of the All-Tournament team. Outstanding job by our coaching staff and players!

Congrats also go out to our Varsity and JV Girls Basketball Teams for their performance in the Elmwood Park Holiday Tournament. The Varsity team finished 2-1 and came in 2nd place with victories over Elmwood Park and Streamwood. Freshman, Bella Silva, made the All-tournament team. The JV team also finished in 2nd place with a 2-1 record with victories over Northside College Prep and Streamwood. Sophomore, Natalie Piro, made the All-tournament team. Way to go ladies! Varsity also beat Lincoln Park at home!
