Creating an Inclusive Environment:

A Family Workshop

District 63 is committed to creating an environment in which every student feels a sense of belonging and inclusion. Join us at this FREE special workshop to learn more about one of our most effective tools for achieving this goal: addressing microaggressions.

Thursday, February 15

6:30 - 8 p.m.

Gemini Middle School

8955 Greenwood Road, Niles

Mustang Gym - Enter at Door 12

Open to those aged 11 and older

Often, expressions of racism, homophobia, sexism, religious intolerance, and more can be very obvious. But sometimes these negative messages can be delivered in smaller, subtler ways. We call these small - but powerful - messages “microaggressions.” This workshop, led by anti-oppression educator and consultant Corrie Wallace, will focus on understanding and identifying microaggressions in order to build a more inclusive school community.

Light refreshments served; child care provided.

Care about the environment, civil rights, your future? Then, vote! We will be registering students to vote at Maine East High School on February 12 and 13.

2024 is an election year for President and Congress, with the primaries in March and the general election in November. Be ready to make your voice heard. Register to vote now.

You are eligible to vote in the upcoming March and November elections if you:

  • will be 18 by November 5, 2024 and
  • are a U.S. citizen.

Volunteers from Action Ridge will be in Room D300 on Monday, February 12 and Tuesday, February 13, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to help students register.

Registering is quick and easy. For the most streamlined experience, please bring two of the following items when you come to register:

  • your Illinois Driver’s License or State ID,
  • the last four digits of your social security number, and/or
  • another ID.

The license or one of the other IDs must have your current address.

Permitted IDs include:

  • an Illinois Driver’s License or State ID,
  • a Social Security card,
  • an employee or school ID,
  • a credit card,
  • a public aid card,
  • a valid US passport,
  • a birth certificate,
  • a school transcript,
  • a utility bill issued to you (not your parents) or
  • mail postmarked and addressed to you at your current address.

Credit cards, bank statements or bills stored on an electronic device are acceptable.

Students who are naturalized citizens should also bring, if possible, the court, city, state and date of their naturalization. Students who don’t have this information when

registering will need to provide a phone number so the clerk’s office can contact

them prior to processing their registration.

If you forget your IDs but still want to register, come over to Room D300 anyway.

Volunteers can give you the tools you need to register at home.

If you’re already registered, amplify your vote by getting your friends to register. Now is the time for everyone to be ‘Vote Ready!’
