Future of Church Series Forum Coming April 29

Our 75th Anniversary "Future of Church" speaker series addresses key issues for churches seeking ideas, motivation, and energy to "do church" in a changing world.

As part of our 75th anniversary commemoration, we are planning free and public forums and community conversations around three (3) focus areas -- faith and community formation, leadership, and mission and outreach -- to prepare churches like Normandale as we lean into our futures.

This program is the first of our series, focusing on faith and community formation, speaking on using innovation to grow faith, hope, and relationship

The program will begin at 7:00pm in our sanctuary; a wine and cheese reception will follow in our Fireside Room.

Author, poet, pastor, and child of Normandale Meta Herrick Carlson is a pastor at the Minnetonka campus of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Meta cares about cultivating healthy systems and preaching that moves us toward mercy and justice. She is also a co-founder of the Alter Guild podcast network.

Faith & Community Formation Conversation May 6

Join other like-minded members of our community to discuss how we will shape faith and community formation in 2026 and beyond.

Jim Meffert will lead the group in conversation that will help us determine where our energies lie and build consensus around possible next steps.

A light supper will be served during the 3-hour session. In order for us to prepare the amount of food that we will need, please register today to attend. All members ages 15 and up are invited!

A Shift in Focus

As we continue to commemorate our 75th anniversary, you will notice that some of the elements that we celebrate shift in their area of focus. For the first couple of months, we dwelled on our relationship with worship. Now we sit with the celebration of how our faith and community formation has developed over these past 75 years.

Special thanks to our Heritage Committee to their continued commitment to the artifacts of our community's past, as well as to Bert Ledder for her dedicated and thorough approach to presenting these treasures in and outside the new cabinetry in our narthex just outside the main sanctuary doors!

Continue to see how we continue to be both "like always" and "like never before" as we celebrate this milestone throughout the year!

National Lutheran Choir

Join the National Lutheran Choir for our spring concert: Healing for our Future, an honest yet hopeful exploration of the impact of gun violence on school communities. Presented alongside Cantus, St. Michael-Albertville High School Concert Choir, and Westminster Presbyterian Church Choir, this finale of our season seeks to unite communities in fostering healing, reducing harm, and building a safer future.

The highlight of this concert will be a World Premiere of a new piece by Melissa Dunphy titled “There is a Way,” Adapting text from Proverbs 14, Dunphy's new work emphasizes that "there is a way to wisdom and understanding," and that those who do good will find peace and uplift nations. In addition to Dunphy’s premiere, the program will feature a carefully curated repertoire that speaks to grief, healing, and hope. Selections include Requiem by Joshua Clausen, Samuel Barber’s Agnus Dei, and Mark Miller’s I Choose Love.

Through music, poetry, and a post-concert talk-back, Healing for Our Future aims to inspire solidarity and hopeful determination for a better future. This event is open to all who wish to be part of this vital conversation.

Join the National Lutheran Choir for this program at Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, on Sunday, May 4th at 4pm.

Special Thanks

Our Easter worship this year is blessed with lambs from Get Bentz Farm.

From farm owners Theresa and Jake:

"After growing up in the city and suburbs, we felt a need to be closer to nature and to be more connected to where our food came from. In 2014, we found a farmhouse for sale with a barn, some outbuildings, and a little acreage where we could start our farm. Our farm is located outside of beautiful Northfield, MN, overlooking the Cannon River Valley. We sell yarn, wool products, and meat at the Mill City and Linden Hills Farmers Markets. View the event page on our website for open house farm days and come visit!"

Special thanks to Theresa and Jake for helping us with our yearly Easter tradition!
